CBC out ? Bad :disbelief
Y would like to believe this change is for better, like including a new fresh song not overplayed (Back dancefloor) or an stronger one (Why aye man).
But, honestly, MK is beginning to "cut" the set in order to make it shorter. It is something common in all his tours.
For instance, in 2015, first shows lasted 2.30, but last shows only 1.45. I would like MK to do most stable sets in matter of running time. You can´t give a long show to certain countries (first weeks of tour) and a shortened one to the last counties of the tour. I think that he should play 2 hours (for example) every night without drastic oscillations.
-
Agree. They should stick to 17-18 songs instead of 14-15 which will probably be the case soon :disbelief :disbelief

Maybe it's only because of the late start of the show, it did also happen during tracker tour that they have to shorten the set

End
-
Well if the concert has just startet at 10pm what can you except else than a significant cut...
-
It's all downhill from here folks. A couple of days off and they had time to rehearse some new songs but all Mark did was to score some from the setlist that were too much bother for him to play. Any set is sh*t without TR or ToL. He had to wave to the audience to let them know it was the end because SAN just doesn't fulfil the requirements for a final song, especially when the "solo" is broken up with a trumpet and saxophone. Thinking about it there is no proper guitar solo of any length left in the show now. Well thanks Mark - not looking forward to my little holiday so much now. >:( >:( >:( >:(

As much as me?
If he does feel it's too much for him then why not drop Speedway? He's only just started the tour anyway so I doubt this is the case. We'll see soon if it's out for good.
-
They have a flight to Bordeaux to catch!
All well and true, but not fair on the fans who pay the same amount as others. There won't be a big tour anymore otherwise fans should have to think twice attending a show which starts at 22.00 instead of the majority shows which starts at 20.00/20.30.
Sad.....

Maybe he will replace TR with his most autobiographical song, Skydiver:
I go where I want, I do what I want
And I don’t give a damn about a thing

They almost leave one out from regular setlist in Antwerp. Check out last setlist from Antwerp on previous tours... One time Guy confirmed on his forum it was because they had a plane to catch
-

I go where I want, I do what I want
And I don’t give a damn about a thing
:clap :clap
He'll play long sets and TR at concerts where his friends attend like Rudy in Barcelona and Vicente in Cordoba, but when the fans attend he starts dropping songs and the best one of all. Thanks Mark. >:( >:(
-
yep, nice to meet up again after so many years Julio...
:wave
-
They started really late tonight. I have faith a full set will be played sunday..

They have a flight to Bordeaux to catch!
No... Bordeaux is on Monday... and next concert is not even tomorrow, but Sunday in Pampluna... So there was no need to rush actually... My hope that dropping TR is a one-off event is very low now... :( :(
-
yep, nice to meet up again after so many years Julio...
If it turns out they really drop TR etc, start cutting down the set, and instead want to sing about their ---- bacon, scrambled eggs and a poor opener on top of it, then I am suddenly not as excited as I have been since October. May this be due to the late start with the TR dropped.... >:( :thumbsdown
-

Even if it was due to the late start (and I doubt it due to the reasons stated above by Herlock) then TR has not habitually been the song to be cut from the set. Lucca concerts always have short sets (due to flights) and have always had TR played. I'm afraid it appears he has decided to drop TR over the break instead of rehearsing other songs for us.

In Lisbon they started at 9:10 p.m. or something, with the concert ending basically at night, not the best experience if you ask me.
To me the concert starting as late as 22 translates into cancelled show, so I guess say thanks they played what whey've played.
Why on Earth you need to start shows this late I have no idea. I always thought 7:00 p.m. is the way to go, but apparently no.

Exactly. Start the show at 22:00 here and by the time it ends there's no public transport to get home. I'm struggling as it is with a start time of 20:00. This is just madness!
-
Antwerp starts at 20:00 :o

Oh dear, I'm just catching up with the forum and I must say what a shite set tonight!
I wonder what Mark thinks about this. Probably doesn't care as always :lol
Okay, enough with trolling the old man. But people paid real money, so...
You go to one show and get 18 songs, you go to another and get 15.
It's once-in-a-lifetime, never-to-be-repeated MK Lottery!

Precisely people are paying good money to hear good music, but to cut down the set and not put other songs in seems ridiculous....

I went too malaga in 2013 and pretty sure that was a 10pm start , but was near the very end of the tour, but sure it was one of my favourite ones from 2013 playing wise
but don't worry normally after we have a bad setlist mark normally surprises the next concert with something new or very different
-
I'd say Once Upon A Time In The West would make me forgive anything, what an addition and what a refreshing sound...
Every new song thrown in the setlist is like a 2L bottle of cold water for a man wandering alone in the desert for a day :clap

I love love love hearing the enthusiasm of the crowd when the 'Alchemy' flutes kick in. Thank you so much , uploaders :)

Every new song thrown in the setlist is like a 2L bottle of cold water for a man wandering alone in the desert for a day :
I had the same feeling when I heard Water of love during the Golden heart tour in 1996, especially the Vaison la romaine version, man, the sound of the Gibson, the bass playing the tempo, everything it was a solid version, I love the new arrangements of Once upon a time in the west.

Starting at 10PM is very unfortunate, at least for those fans who don't have a stretched limo waiting outside to take them to their private jet. On a serious note, obviously they must have had a good reason. That said, dropping a fan favorite like TR is pretty dramatic, so why couldn't they have skipped two shorter songs to make room for TR? Or, if he had to skip TR, drop one short song and add another special treat? A shorter setlist could still be made into a killer setlist. Just dropping songs like that, and particularly ones like TR, is not the way to go.
-
*One does not simply drop TR*

BREAKING!! tour announced with new name :lol :lol
(http://bayimg.com/d5613a00325918ffeb4b9f7b0c2c00320fe8f0a7.jpg)
1. "I like the way we cut the list together. Nobody does that quite the way we do"
2. Myyyy bacon roll/My scrambled eggs?
3. Setlist full of holes
4. "I don't do full sets anymore but I used to could"
5. "Money for Nothing and a cup of tea"
Going Home cancelled due to tea-break on early flight
No but seriously stop cutting the set. It's the farewell tour and people paid a lot. Keep it 17 songs at least. While some Iucky ones get 18 songs, I unfortunately expect 15 which was the case last time.
And dropping TR is a joke.
Hopefully back on Sunday again...
-
Add ‘I used to could play a full set’ ;D ;D
-
People... Start at 22.00 is the usual in Spain. Not having public transport to go home after, is the usual in Spain. Spain is Spain.
Starting at 21.00 like the rest of Spanish shows was so unusual that most of them started later as there were people entering the venue at 21.15 yet.
That Spain is Spain is not an excuse for MK. His shows at Spain always started late so he knows.
-
So maybe grandpa just had to get into bed in time? Or maybe he's sick of TR already? The plot thickens.

Why should they fly to Bordeaux (BOD) ?? By car back to pamplona? 3 hours...
-
Plane or no plane, after years of going to MK concerts which I enjoyed every minute of, I’d be very pissed off going to a MK gig where he didn’t play either sultans or telegraph Rd. They could have surely cut the set list to suit. Drop Bacon Roll & Heart full of holes & put in sultans as an opener. I’d say there’s a few disappointed people around today who expected a bit more from a farewell gig 🥺🥺

Yes, it's strange because Pamplona does have an airport.

From Guy's forum:
Q: Today Mark deleted two songs from the setlist in Coruña to be able to catch plane on time. Is it true? Thanks
Guy: No, we have a plane, it’s just that there is a strict curfew at that airport. Nothing we could do about it.
It doesn't explain why they started the concert so late! There was something they could have done - started a bit earlier! ::)

Ambiguous Guy as usual, but this *might* mean that this was a one-off, not supposed to be permanent ? Or am I dreaming ?
-
Guy states of his forum that he has played OUATITW before.
I'm pretty sure he hasn't. It was last played on Alchemy night, before Guy joined...
Memory problems ?
-
Perhaps on a private gig. :smack
-
I'd say Once Upon A Time In The West would make me forgive anything, what an addition and what a refreshing sound...
+1
one of the best things he ever did, goosebumps!!

Could also be they rehearsed the song for another tour :think

Let's see the positive side of it...
At least he drop off telegraph, which is a long and boring song that nobody wants to listen, but he played Bonaparte which is the fans number one favorite song from all the MK songs.
Let's see the positive facts, people!

Really? Probably not for everyone.

I wish he'd drop the bacon sh-t and play Sonny Liston instead...

I could live with Speedway and two "new" songs instead of Telegraph Road.

Me too. Actually TR versions to me are very light in comparative with how it used to be. I don't mind if it's drop off permanently. And now. I mean it.
But Bonaparte... Come one.

I wondered how long it would take! This was the first thing that I thought of when it started in Barcelona! I thought it was akin to the resurrection of Water of Love with that huge Gibson sound. The only difference being that I can't stand these later versions of Water of Love. Nobody mentioned it and I kept forgetting to.

Why can't they use a different airport or fly the next morning? Poor management again. We all know that Lucca and others will have a short set because of the airport they use so why play there or why use that specific airport?
Did anyone else notice the solo in Speedway was shorter too? Also NDT seemed to have a new arrangement. My feed was breaking up but when it was time for Mark's solo he walked over to Richard and it seemed like he had given space for Ricardo to play it. Unfortunately my feed gave up at that point so I don't know.
I was unhappy about Sultans not being played but understand and forgive, partly due to the great set played in Barcelona. I was even forgiving the removal of WAM because I think it sounded better without brass. A concert without Sultans, TR and a shortened Speedway though is just too much. Not only this but last night the concert felt rushed. Every song was performed with a feeling of "let's get this one over with so we can get on with the next."
We'll wait and see over the next couple of shows but last night the fans were short-changed and have my sympathy.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Speedway doesn't have the monumental splendour to end a concert like TR does, especially as performed with the shortened solo as per last night. Mark had to perform a continual wave to signal it was actually the end of the show, something not needed with TR. If it's too much for him to play then drop Speedway. Or drop OES and Speedway! Don't drop TR!

Agree that 1996 versions of Water of Love are so-so... but this 1990 slow, haunting version with NHB was just amazing.

Totally agree. If they drop TR permanently and other important ones I'll lose excitement for my upcoming concert, will of course attend anyway but you'd still expect some of these songs to feature.
We were probably all surprised with TR removed yesterday.

Drovers road, don't suck me in, One song, Trapper...
There are some really good ones rather than bacon, nobody.... But these 4 will probably never be played to our disappointment...

The setlist is written on stone. There is nothing to dream about. MK needs a safe set to end his last tour.

Yes. But starting to drop things out is a joke. We paid some good amount of money for this one :)
Fine if it's a stone standard setlist but stick to it to be Fair to all fans in different venues and don't play 18 songs here, 15 there, 14 in another place etc....

I agree with you about the varying number of songs in different venues. In 2013 I went to five concerts, the last one being Carcassonne. This was the concert with the least number of songs - 14 and it was one of the best concerts I have attended. Having said that, though, it had a very special TR which made up for the lack of songs, which I didn't notice, because the concert and the atmosphere was so good! So I really hope MK will put TR back into the set list with some others from the new album which I would love to hear played.
-
I think the drops were due only to the flight problem and those songs will come back immediately but
1) still it's ridiculous that if any concert starts late the fans are fu**ed
2) if you have to drop some songs, drop the right ones, not TR
3) TR better be played friday in Milan cause my level of tolerance is already extreme, I might default in the case
-
I'm sure there will be new songs.
The highest you dream, the highest you fall.
It's MK who we are talking about.
-
According to Flightradar they really had a flight at 12:30 a.m., right after the show, so they had to rush it badly.
How after 40 years of touring and having a spare day after the show they can't figure all this out is beyond me.

Is it a promotors thing if they start at 21 or even later and they have to finish at a vertaling time to get a flight? Why not start at every venue round 20h then they can play every night a full set. I would feel f***ed if i know they play shorter and i payed the same price where play much longer.

The tracker tour MK was in good shape and playing comfortably. This is his last tour and looks like he is not comfortable at all playing.
-
I think they will try one or two new songs at some point, but that is the maximum. It seems that Mark really has to concentrate to lyrics and playing and during the first shows he did not look comfortable (based on the Youtube), so we should not expect too much.

Yes, dropping off more songs...
-
Oh and that's only the 6th show out of an 85-shows tour for an "old man". Strap yourself in for even more action down the line :lol
-
I'm getting quite worried about the length of the tour. I think he may have bitten off more than he can chew - I hope I'm wrong! ;)
-
Everyone has different expectations. Mark will not satisfy everyone.
-
The fact Mark decides to stop touring show us that he is already tired, otherwise he wouldn't have announced it.
So despite some struggle he's probably doing his best to make this tour a great one.
Regarding setlist variation I guess that Mark will do some new inclusion when he will think it is the right time to do so but for now he concentrates on the current songs.
-
If 2.5 hours is too long for him, he should skip some of the fillers, like CBC and YLT. Short can still be great, but a short show with several insignificant songs? No way to say goodbye.
-
Corned beef city is already so overplayed as was walk of life... It wasn't a good song not even the first time he played, just decent...
-
Totally.
-

Correct. Never great but did a job in the set of being a faster paced number early on. I agree with Hunter too. Just imagine he dropped it this tour though. The first part of the show would send everyone to sleep with the slow pace of it. Really, they should've replaced it with another pacy song.
YLT can be scrapped altogether as far as I'm concerned. It's never been good live and the recent versions have been the most laconic, stodgy and pedestrian-paced versions of all-time. Does anyone in the band actually think it sounds okay?

CBC is one of the greatest songs of the set.
I hope Radio City Serenade.
-
Well I like YLT. But CBC in preference to WII? Nonsense.
Listen to the album version of YLT, then a live version from 2015 onward. They are embarrassing by comparison. The album version is so good but Mark cannot sing it live and his guitar fills are also poor and repetitive, exactly what makes the album version so brilliant.
Perhaps the rest of the band are afraid to tell Mark how awful it sounds but I can sense the audience getting restless during the song.

Yeah... But, on the other hand, I feel that after big tours Mark will unveil more songs to be played live, without the need to prove something to somebody doing a 85-shows tour in 70. More intimate shows like Boothbay Harbor or Prince's Trust 2009 spawns rare performances and even almost a live album for the latter. I don't know how people think, but I'm happy that Mark closes this series of neverending Done With Bonaparte Tour and will sigh with a relief on September 22, waiting for an "odd show" with Mark in his true and better than ever shape.

It's always been extremely interesting to me to know the true feelings of band members towards Mark, because for us the general public it's always praise only of course. ESPECIALLY from Guy. But I feel that the musicians are pretty bored playing Sultans for instance, to the point that I remember seeing Glenn literally sleeping while playing this song, so at least that one got out of the set already, thank Gods of music for that.

The problem with one-off shows is that you can't secure a world class band as most musicians tend to commit to more profitable endeavours.

The London shows in 2002 were epic. Robbie on guitar, Danny on drums and John Illsley on bass. Sure, it's 17 years ago and everyone was younger. Nonetheless, killer band, killer shows.

This is really unfair and it seems to happen every tour with them.
Why can't they start the show earlier. Its not like they will give back 10% of the ticket price.
TR is one of the highlights of the show the vast majority of people go to one show and thats how they should approach it.

I viewed some bits last week. Robbie's bits were really great and a solo featured on YLT or Baloney Again depending of the night.
WAM will problably remain the best live version.
This is my exception for MK "one off" backing band because with the 96's you generally get a more rehearsed time and more solid performance than with the promo band.
I think this year UK shows will start the "get oiled time" of the tour.

With regards to the late start to the show, I think there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that we don't know about, these tours are planned a very long time in advance, it is not just one person sorting it all out, there are many factors to take into consideration, flight times, airport flying restrictions, promoters wishes, local government/council curfews etc, various meetings/interviews for Mark, the time it takes to get to the town and construct the stage for the band to soundcheck, and a million other things we don't know about. Mark has been doing this long enough to know when is a good start time for a concert, but some things are out of his and managements hands. I think we need to give him and the band a break!!!

Yes, but when you’re aware for several years that you can’t do a full set because of time restrictions, you could start thinking of planning a different way, can’t you? ;D

What if its the difference between a shortened show and no show?
-
Exactly, I would prefer to attend a shorter show than no show at all.
