seems so, some shopping due in Via Montenapoleone

Nice, got mine yesterday 8)

So you can’t have a custom USB Drive with the date of the show and the city? I’m glad I’ve skipped it then.

Not this time and they are shipped empty.. Anyway nice item to have on the, probably, last tour and to extend the usb guitar collection :lol
I thought that they might be generous and have it formatted to NTFS, doesn't really matter since none of the concert formats will require this, but as I thought it was FAT32

Leaving to Milan in few minutes, Pray for me for Silvertown and/or Telegraph, only a worldwide prayer can make the miracle :lol
Should be pretty nice anyway I am sure

Anyone know show time? The venue website is no help at all, except that Phil Collins plays in a couple of months so we'll need to remind Dusty about that! ;)

Just discussed this with a friend of mine. I think it's pretty surreal to watch your dad play for thousands of people, private jets, signing autographs, fans everywhere and all for your dad who walks in your house in underwear when you have guests (just kidding, but you get the idea).

So no Silvertown or TR today either... Poor Pensa...
Sad if Silvertown already dropped on permanent basis...

The sad thing is that if he was just playing a dozen dates on a UK tour he'd be playing TR and Silvertown at all shows - no doubts.

I think I'd take a warmed-up Mark over a longer show anyway. Just that at the moment it's neither!

Saw the man in Lisbon.... well, after seeing those videos from last night in Milan, I have to say that he's improving a lot!
Seriously... I'm thinking that our hero only need to "practice".... probably he don't touch a guitar "properly" for a long time....
-
After seeing the videos I see him making quite a lot of mistakes if I have to be honest. Looking at other gigs his playing seems a little rusty in Milan. Tiny mistakes, a bit behind the rest.
-
am anxiously awaiting Pensa's review.
hehe :thumbsup
Here's my review of the Milan show, to give you an idea of my words I have seen every tour live since 1992 included and this is my first of this tour
MK's GUITAR SOUND 8.5 I normally rate it always 10. It was still very enjoyable but there's something wrong/strange this time, especially in the distorted sounds. It's probably due to MK using the Kemper amp as Oscar Rosende reported from a soundcheck in Spain. a Kemper amp is computer, a unit which digitally simulates the real tube amp. Infact the distorted sounds are the most difficult to replicate by a digital unit. If it's confirmed it would really be a very strange move by MK imo. Confirmed or not, there was something strange in the distorted sounds. Still very enjoyable overall, maybe 99% of people who are not guitarists wouldn't even noticed.
MK's VOICE 9 Impressive. I was quite worried about it after listening to some audience recordings of the tour but it was great,
even better than other tours imo, maybe helped by a very good mood for the night. Italian shows tend to be amongst the best of the tour usually imo.
SETLIST 8.5 Everyone has obviously his own taste about this, I would have loved Silvertown and Telegraph but when played live even the most boring song, that in my case is Done With Bonaparte, sounds interesting and lovely.
SONGS ARRANGEMENTS 9 This would be 10 if it wasn't for Speedway, I think the 2nd part of the song is a total mess and not enjoyable as usual, too many clashing instruments. At least the first part of the song was ok.
LIGHTS 7 Not exactly what you would expect from a rock superstar but we already know the lights are intented to be weak on purpose to give the music the central stage. Still nice on some songs.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE 9 Really very very enjoyable overall, the presence of Once upon a time after 36 years is certainly a big plus.
All musicians are really great. I was impressed by the sax guy. If you are a fan, no doubt you will enjoy the concert very very much.
-
Glad you had a good time, Pensa.

Mark likes both latest technology and old fashioned one so this move would not surprise me that much.
And honestly I could not tell I heard a big difference because he doesn't use the same PA than before and doesn't get his guitar sound direct from the amp.
My main concern is more focused on the Beard that I find even more difficult to hear on R&J than with the National.
On the contrary I find Richard better mixed than he used to be.

After four years without having played in public, you have to be lenient, the band is getting used to the songs, it will improve from date to date.

That's old hats really. He has done so for decades, f.e. On the OES tour or 2008. If it makes you feel better, be assured that it's not the very same shirt each night most probably but he will have some more, maybe a dozen if you like? And I am pretty sure he gets them washed now and then.
LE
-
Also the shirt thing indicates the difference between what die hard fans or multiple concert goers expect and what he is trying to deliver - a show. It's not like daily work let's see what songs I choose tonight. That's the Dylan style. Mark seems to feel like an actor in a piece of theatre. Would an stage actor change his costume during a tour? So for Mark the surprise songs hopefully work every night because he tends to believe that most of the audience see and hear it for the first time. Spoiling yourself is your own fault, not his.
LE
-
"Mark seems to feel like an actor in a piece of theatre"
Exactly. I wrote about it earlier.

I'm really digging the setlist actually. Except does anyone know why he doesn't play Sultans anymore? Maybe I missed something but I feel like he would have to play it considering it's looking like his last tour.

He can't play that kind of guitar playing demanding songs anymore.
He tried with TR but he realized he had to stop playing it as well.

"Can't" and "realized he had to stop" ... We don't know the reasons for sure, but physical limitations is a theory.

It's true, probably he stopped for any other reasons like... he rather play Bonaparte and Paraguay. But he can play that fast and well if he wants.
Ps/ No, that was just irony. Mk can't deliver a good Sultans and a good TR and he knows, that's why he didn't try Sultans and why he stopped playing TR.

It's a LIKELY explanation, but Mark is weird when it comes to setlists. Point is, you can't say for certain "that's why".
Edit: I want to add that I am happy he has decided not play Sultans. He has played enough crappy versions of it.
-
I just don't believe that "he can't play" the fast songs anymore, I have just re-watched the Soundbreaking documentary again, which was only from 3 years ago, he was playing some fast stuff then, but I feel it is a combination of Mark putting most of his efforts towards songwriting more than playing the guitar plus age related health issues (arthritis maybe?) that is the factor, he has been playing as a professional musician for most of adult life, so you don't loose that ability he has, yes it can go rusty, but the ability and desire to play that way can and does wane. Mark is in a very lucky position in that he can do it all to a very high standard, he doesn't just have to rely on his guitar playing to get him through, like Eric Clapton for example, Eric has to keep his live playing good, because he can't fall back on great song writing, same with someone like Joe Satriani. I think this is backed up by the fact he said he was looking for a Jazz teacher, although he may have been teasing with that ;) Another big factor I think is since Chet Atkins died, Mark doesn't have to keep his playing to a very high level to keep up with Chet, for Mark, Chet was as good as it got for guitar playing, and after Chet there is nothing for him to prove anymore.

My impression is that, with Mark, it's not only a question about rustiness and physical ability when he decides to drop songs. I think just as important is whether he is into the song, whether he feels it does something for him and to some extent for the audience. I've said it before, but Mark is not the type of performer who can go on stage and pretend and put on a slick performance, like a professional actor. What you see is what you get, for better or worse. How many Sultans have we not witnessed where it seems he is bored out of his mind? So, for whatever reason he decides to not play certain songs, I think we should be happy about it.

Thank you almighty jbaent, for informing us simple souls what MK's reasons are.

I think that indeed, he can't anymore. Both Telegraph Road and Sultans of Swing have become rather dull when it comes to guitarwork. These guitarsolo's used to come with ease yet all it's become is mindless noodling around with the occasional memorable recognizable licks. He was capable of building a great guitar solo in Telegraph Road but he just sounds bored out of his mind. It happens with a lot of bands who've played the same songs for 30 years. Eventually they'll get boring and you'll wind up playing on autopilot.
I reckon with the mindset he has nowadays on top of the physical limitations it's just no longer that feasable to him. The guitar heavy Dire Straits songs have all been dropped as have the solo stuff with the faster licks. He's letting the songs speak as opposed to the guitarwork. It doesn't always work for me as I think the shows lacks fire but alas, there's not much you can do about it.

Was listening to the WAM from this show tonight, it’s a quality arrangement.
Ian’s drumming in the intro is fantastic and a bit different from normal (I think)
