Okay, but Mark doesn't enjoy other guitarists on stage with him these days.  Someone providing additional vocals is another story.

Rome, maybe? Two setlists in the same venue to pick the best performance from .. they have to wear
same shirts but It doesn't seem an issue ;)

It's also on MK's site....

Mark, along with special guest Bonnie Raitt, is adding a performance at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden on September 25.
Tickets are available for presale to fans on Wednesday, May 15 at 10:00 am Eastern Time (3 pm BST) at both http://tour.markknopfler.com/ and http://www.bonnieraitt.com, as well as via Live Nation on Thursday, May 16 at 10:00 am Eastern Time (3 pm BST).
The general public can purchase tickets beginning Friday, May 17 at 10:00 am Eastern Time (1 pm BST). Each ticket comes with a copy of Down the Road Wherever.
The best way to buy tickets is from http://markknopfler.com where you will also find details of safe fan-to-fan resale sites. You are urged not to purchase tickets from resellers whose authenticity of tickets/prices cannot be guaranteed.

I understand from MKs site that it’s a show with Bonnie as guest, but on Bonnies site it’s only opening..? I hope she turns up as a guest. That would be great! If they could do one of her songs too, like they did with James Taylor back in 2001 (Raised Up Family)..

I would think it will be more than just the opening act, they are billed together, and Mark has put on a whole new concert for her, I would think she will join Mark for several songs or he could just ask her to perform one song as a guest!!! Makes the Royal Albert Hall "guests" more intriguing.

She is a slide guitar player...

Her style is more close to the blues than Sonny, which is more cajun / zydeco, but they are both slide guitar players.

Well...
In Barcelona he said "I have to say goodbye. I will just continue to make records".
In Strasbourg he said "I know I ought to retire, but I like it too much, that's a problem".
So by the time he arrives to NYC he may well say "See you next year for another tour" :)

Had this as well when purchasing westcoast tickets. I called them before and said don’t block the card but after buying 2 shows that day they decided that the 3rd purchase must be fraude. I really was able to kill them if I knew who to kill 😀😂

Yes, ticket sales are really poor so far for that concert. Less than half of the seats are sold. That’s a real shame considering it seems as though it will be his last show ever.

It's a too big venue for the US where they play mostly theaters.

And it's a big venue in a city where they will be playing two nights at a theatre before.

A crazy idea.

Opposite plan than with the O2 and the Rah in London.

Also had that feeling that the US ticket prices are clearly higher... venue costs etc?
Maybe PCM/MK require more 'dinero' for the US tour and this is a result of that...

That was just the floor and one of the sides, this is the other side...

I know this place is big and that the show is on more than a month time but, not even in the biggest places in Europe there were so many seats available one month and some weeks before...

Do you think it's even possible they cancel it? They might play in a place with too much empty seats!

That was just the floor and one of the sides, this is the other side...

I know this place is big and that the show is on more than a month time but, not even in the biggest places in Europe there were so many seats available one month and some weeks before...

Do you think it's even possible they cancel it? They might play in a place with too much empty seats!

I noticed that too...... and I reaaaaaaaaallly worry that they could cancel.... I really hope not....

They are playing twice at Beacon Theater in August....

The pic you show has curvature that is NOT consistent with floor seating (all floor seating starts with 90 degree angles).  This is already on risers; not floor.  I don't think there is any cause for alarm.

I think that there’s no way they cancel. Now that it’s booked they have to pay for the arena whether it’s cancelled or not. They’re already going to take a loss on this show, but cancelling would mean an even bigger loss. I’m still not sure why they decided to do this last show. They’re already playing in New York twice during the tour. Why didn’t they just finish the tour in LA? Maybe they have some special guests planned for Mark’s final show, other than Bonnie of course. In a way it’s kind of sad that there’s such poor attendance for Mark’s final show.....maybe ever.

Ticket prices, even for New York, must be one of the major causer of such a poor sale.

As far as I understand, the show is a sellout. In the US people go to Ticketmaster, Stubhub, etc. for RESALE of tickets. Someone that paid let's say $100 for a ground level seat in the middle, is trying to resell it for $350 or so. That's it. As the concert gets closer, prices start dropping to the point that most seats are taken. I have been to two Dire Straits concerts in the Garden, as well as many others, such as The Police, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Billy Joel, Rod Stewart, Elton; they are ALWAYS sold out! Believe me, it will be sold out easily.

ps. whoever is going as well as to this week's show at the Beacon, lets meet up

I don't know anything about US concerts, but the MSG is fairly large. I couldn't find much info on wikipedia on attendances, has there been 20k+ attending any shows during the past tours, especially overseas?

Maybe Guy has hinted at the rehearsal of that song for the MSG because they are aware that sales are not good enough. They want to encourage fans to consider going to that show by teasing us. Just my two cents

In that case they should go all the way and declare they're inviting clapton to join in for a special 30 minutes version of tunnel (not that it would make me move)

There are planty of tickets sold at the arena sections, there are many empty seats but the situation is not that bad.

Where the situation is worst is on the rest of the MSG, with empty seats everywhere.

I dont know if they want to record that show but if they do they woumd have to focus the cameras in the arena section and avoid general views.

I don't think they cancel it now. It would be bad for Knopfler and Raitt brand. They can also reallocate people from others sections to others in the stalls closest to the stage and put in total darkness the empty sections...

They seem not being that appealing to general public and add ticket price.

When was last time Mark sold out a big one in NY ? I would guess he was still playing under the Dire Straits banner.
Otherwise MK solo gig in New York are a 6'000 average attendance (how much in 2008 performing Central Park SummerStage ?).

Well, on the bright side it could be moved to Radio City. A much better venue to see MK than MSG.  No offense, but I'm not too surprised that most of the boomer aged people who will attend this show don't want to sit on a folding chair for a little over two hours.

No offense as well, but NA is not Europe. It's very clear the reason why MK plays smaller venues there. In Europe MK had sold out many venues like the MSG or even bigger.

In my opinion this concert is a big failure by management in many aspects, first of all, MK had just played two sold out concerts at the Beacon in NY, and after that, in less than a month (or maybe a little more, I didnt checked) you book the MSG, that is too much big for the American audiences, in a city where he already played before?

Adding Bonnie Raitt maybe was a strategy to raise sales but... again, he already played NY and in a better venue for fans. MK doesn't sell that much in NA for such a big venue and the most important. The prices... The worst places at the MSG had the only normal prices, but most of the bad and/or far away seats had prices like the firsts rows in Europe!

Everything about this gig is a big big failure. If you see the overall seating map for it, it's more than 3/5 empty. None of the big hangars in Europe had been like that two hours after the general sale was open. Most of them were almost sold out, and sometimes, sold out. Venues like the Sportpalais in Antwerpen, which is bigger than the MSG.

This is going to be a sad farewell for MK big tours, playing a more than 3/5 empty venue, but, that's what happens when you do this very big mistake of booking a so big venue in a city where he just had played two consecutive nights in a country where he sells so little for those big arenas.

Like Dan says, the Radio City Music Hall would had been sold out for sure, even probably 3 consecutive nights at the Radio City would had sold out probably, or very close...

Like Dan says, the Radio City Music Hall would had been sold out for sure, even probably 3 consecutive nights at the Radio City would had sold out probably, or very close...

Correct.  You don't just move an event to another venue, 3 weeks before a show.   Can anyone supply an example of this being done even once before, for any artist, at a USA venue, aside from obvious situations where the venue had physical issues (damage, etc)?   Then why think it could happen now?

And, how would you handle the reseating of people who had already bought tickets?  Issue new tickets this late?   Radio City seats about 6,000.  Looks to me that at least that many tickets have been sold to MSG.   For anyone who is suggesting the move, how would you suggest that they handle that situation?   Send letters saying your ticket is no longer valid to those who bought seats after 6000 were sold?

The venue size, along with premium pricing as if it were a small venue, is probably a big factor in the lack of sales.  I passed on buying a presale ticket, as the price for two tickets is more than my cross country air fare for a week vacation(holiday) to the west coast.  If even I passed on buying tickets for this show (after attending at least one NY show every tour), how would anyone expect that it would even close to sell out with sales to more casual fans?

I'll also throw in that the crossover between MK fans and Raitt fans is probably small.  (Yes, I know the few who love both acts will speak up.  No doubt there are some, just not many!)  If the opening act was another choice, more in the rock genre, then it would have a better chance at selling out.

I expected to see some Groupon discounts, or something like that, to increase sales, but as of yet there is no real new effort in marketing this show!

If you look you can see that Peter Frampton, who is doing a final tour due to medical issues, also has a show near the end of his tour at MSG, on Sept 13.   While not as many seats remain unsold at the MK show, there are a significant number of seats available, just 9 days before that show.

Just thinking about how if they combined Frampton/Knopfler concerts into one show, in my estimation, it would have been sold out months ago, and probably much more enjoyable to those in attendance.   (I just saw Frampton last week, and it was a great show.  I think you'd be surprised at his level of play and energy compared to MK.  Check out an example   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kshHY_Yg2lU)

I was the show Mark did with Bob Dylan at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. The place holds over 10k. Less that 2,000 seats were sold. It was the most awkward concert feeling ever. THAT having been said, Mark and co played no less, and hearing that Les Paul echo off the empty walls of the arena to Brothers In Arms was something that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and I will never forget.

So, I believe the show will go on, and will be amazing regardless. Perhaps more personal as a result!

If only Billy Joel (who pretty much has a residence there, and is playing there a couple nights after) would say he will be there, perhaps PCM could really capitalize....

Billy was a special guest at a Straits show on 12th October 1985 at MSG as it happens.  Another coincidence is that this was shortly after playing three nights at Radio City (1st, 2nd and 3rd of October).  Of course that was DS at the height of their popularity and with Ed at the helm.

Ed had Mark on the Letterman show and John doing interviews around the time of the Radio City shows.  No way Crooks will have Mark playing on TV these days.

On the Bob Dylan 2012 tour, the Detroit show was moved to a different, smaller venue due to poor ticket sales. Anyway, I doubt it will happen for this show. I do agree with you jbaent. My impression is ever since the On Every Street album and tour, MK has always acquired much more interest and popularity in Europe than the US. This is no secret and the it's reflected in album and ticket sales.

Yea, also why they offered free copies of the album if US customers bought pre-sale tickets.

Like said above, Australia and/or South America would sell some tickets. Seen lots of comments on Facebook asking when he will return to these places. Very packed schedule already in the EU/NA tour. That's why they could do one gig in each EU country next time, to save energy on themselves (if there is a next time). :o

One venue for each country would easily sell out, at least in EU.

Good idea, maybe that is the best way going forward, for "the next" tour, smaller amount of shows but more countries around the world, that way Mark could have more of a rest during the tour as he could be almost mid 70's by then. And it would be a great farewell to all those other countries who don't get a tour date, plus it could be correctly marketed as a "World Tour" instead of the current one, which is really just Europe plus America and Canada.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems to me (or maybe I just try to reassure myself, having booked tickets / flight / hotel for MSG) that it would cost them more to cancel it at this stage than to keep it, even if half-empty. The fix costs must have already spent, the fee due to MSG by  PCM must not be refundable, as there is no way MSG can put another show last minute at this date ! So the only way to limit the damages is too keep the show and try to increase last-minute sales with last-minutes discounts. Let alone the impact in terms of image that a cancellation would have...

Am I missing something here ?

They would be better of reducing the ticket prices, then they would fill the seats.

Not only that but also do promotion for it.

People doesn't know magically that the high prices they saw one month ago are lower now. If they don't check again they would never know.

or they skip the upper tier and upgrade everyone from there to the first tier.
They can be lucky if they sell 8k tickets.

Does anyone know how the BD/MK Brooklyn show sold?

MK opened for Bob Dylan in 2012, a few weeks after Superstorm Sandy, as I recall. It was at Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, and it was a sellout.

I would say 80% Dylan fans and 20% Mark. Mark played a great set for around an hour, then stayed around and played on Dylan's first 3 songs. My wife and I had floor seats, but when Dylan came on, she couldn't stand his "voice", so she said she's going to the concessions and for me. After Mark left the stage, we left the arena. So my point is, I don't expect too many people to be like we were and show up for Bonnie's set and then leave before Mark. At least, my wife like's Mark's voice; she's been hearing me play him for 35 years so far!!

Saw a post on Facebook where one person bought tickets for $150, same seats were $250 last week.

True, sections A and C has lowered the back seats to 150, and sectiona 1, 2 and 3, from 150 to 129,50. The cheapest now are under the 50 bucks.

Well done!

I'd say that it's not if it should have been scheduled, but how it was scheduled... If you already had two nights in New york, scheduling another one in a bigger venue seems odd... Looks how it's done in Europe. They schedule first the BIG O2 arena in London, when the sales are close to sold out, then they release two nights at the RAH, which is smaller and nicer than the O2.

In NY they did opposite. They released first the small and nice venue concerts, and after the big one. It's a rare strategy when you know there is no such big market for MK in the USA... They could had scheduled first the MSG only, and avoid the two other concerts, or release first the MSG and after it sells well, release the Beacon theater concerts.

We don't like when PCM does that with the O2 arena and the RAH, but the disaster of the MSG concert in NY explains very well why they do it that way.

Probably... but I knew there was another US concert to be announced before the tour started, so they knew it months before it was announced officially.

I prefer to see the romance is such a decision.

Last ever concert (potentially), why not choose one of the most iconic venues in the World and go out in style?

It isn't working out that way but I prefer to see the romance in all this.

Carnegie Hall would have been an excellent choice.  Or they could have stayed on the same side of the continent and played LA last, but at the Hollywood Bowl.

No. The Greek is also a very famous and nice venue. The Bowl is too big also.
But this won't be his last gig.

Maybe it is a test to see if he can fill it in the future as he only gives a concert in LA and Red Rocks and MSG and or Chicago.
Then in Europe Berlin, AMS, BRU and Paris and Royal Albert Hall

Hey MK!  Some of us are going to Carmine's (an Italian restaurant in Times Square).  Needs reservations for dinner, so if you'd like to join in, let me know and I will add you.  Otherwise, they have a bar if you just want drinks (or a light meal).  Others might be meeting elsewhere (at a nearby pub?), so that may be another option.  Or do both!    :D

I'm not afraid about being the last big tour, in the contrary. The best thing he can do, it´s, like MK says "it has to be normal traveling for old man", a tour of selected places, in Europe and in the US, those places where he knows he sell out the venues and the cities and venues he really loves to play, from a 85 concerts tour to a 30 concerts tour or less. If he doesn't want to retire from touring at all as he is saying lately.

When Eric Clapton stopped touring and only did three or four concerts at the RAH in May, to get tickets was more difficult, but we are experienced purchasing tickets with the fair admission and presales, so we don't have problem to get tickets, but the general audience that doesn't know about the FA and presale... I managed to get tickets to Clapton at the RAH two years ago, using the "what´s Eric" presale, for example, and it was the only time I tried, so, 100% of success, LOL

What I paid for that Clapton ticket was high, but not much higher than MK... so in comparation, smaller tour vs big tour didn't make a big difference.

I know he's been in top form recently however the shows have lacked the killer songs and it's only recently he's been reaching the sort of form you'd expect perhaps a couple of weeks into the tour.  I'm also thinking about the sad sight of an elderly man walking out in Barcelona and when any future tour would occur he'd be mid 70s, worse condition and a setlist adjusted to nothing of note.  Do I want this or do I want to see him finish touring in this form?  The latter.

Also, let's not forget what he himself wanted to do even weeks into the tour.  He must've been really struggling with the pace of it all at the start.  As soon as he's stopped touring I'm not quite so sure he'll be feeling like starting up again.

Let guess is just that the start of the tour coincided with him having any health issue or just being worried about if he had to stop touring or not and he was sad about it, and it took some months to really understand he wants to keep doing it or feeling better. But in a smaller scale, as he says "it has to be normal traveling for old man"

Other artists of MK age and older tour without any problem, and he looks far batter now so, I think if he finished well, he might be looking to go back as soon as he can, I hope!

What we're all forgetting is that he isn't doing this for us, he's doing it for him. If Mark wants to come on stage in an electric wheelchair and play one handed xylophone solos he'll do it, and there will be plenty of people willing to watch.... ;D

I'm shocked that there are only a few posts speculating about which song was rehearsed to be added to the setlist for the MSG show.

To me the song that makes the most sense, and wouldn't require much rehearsal for, would be Sultans of Swing. MK might have fond memories of playing this song the first time they played MSG, and this would be a fitting bookend for his lifetime of shows at the venue.

Actually, some of us we know what they will play together. They had been rehearsing a song in the last open air concerts...

The only thing I'd say, in order to not spoil too much, is one song MK had player before with a female singer.

One that i like quite a lot by the way, and apparently not too much room for Bonne slide guitar.

I know I'm not a big time poster on this board, but I have enjoyed every minute of this tour with all of you - from the first show and live stream in April right up until now.  Hearing "Wherever I Go" was just the icing on the very large cake this year.   It was nice to meet a few of you and let us all hope that this isn't really "the end" but just the end of 86-shows-in-a-row.   :)

Yes, great show, with MK and band seemingly in better form than last month at the Beacon. That said, I have to admit I enjoyed the Beacon show a lot more than MSG. There were just too many "bums in seats" in my area who talked or were on their phones the whole time and used various slower songs as an opportunity to purchase more alcohol. Certainly didn't seem like they were there to see MK. Getting them to clap along with Bacon Roll was a chore. About 20% near the front joined in. The rest seemed confused and perhaps thought they were at the wrong show. Oh well. The encore with Bonnie made it worthwhile.

WOW!! That was an amazing performance by Mark tonight! I was in 6th row dead center; trust me, he played guitar licks that he has never done before! It must have been his adrenaline since he knew this was the last show.

Speedway was a masterpiece tonight. His solos were brilliant and I Could see the effort he put into hitting those strings harder that I think he ever has.

My advice- definitely buy this concert; you'll be happy you did.

My only note of disappointment was that he dropped the second encore (BIA/Piper) for the Bonnie duet, so he basically replace it with WYG. It was great to hear it live for the first time; I had hoped that Bonnie could have stayed and played Prairie Wedding as well, but alas, "a boy can dream".

   Saul

ps. My kids bought me a sweatshirt at the show. $55 - it cost me $750 to bring them to the show. But seeing them having a ball after subjecting them to MK for their entire lifetimes (the kids are 34, 28, 21)….priceless   :D

I suspect she'll make an appearance during the show too as she did in LA in 2001.  Prairie Wedding maybe?

Yes, like Sonny Landreth did when he opened for MK in France some tours ago...

Okay, but Mark doesn't enjoy other guitarists on stage with him these days.  Someone providing additional vocals is another story.

So we will finally hear Trapper man and Back on the Dancefloor then
Such a missed opportunity....sigh

How many where there?
Lots of empty seats?
Or was it acceptable?
Felt so sorry for the Band.
If he hadn't played Beacon the maybe could have a sell out

I am confident that they play MSG again

I was surprised, as they must have sold a lot of tickets in the past few days. By no means was it close to a sell out, but it did not look embarrassingly empty.  I'd say about 2-3,000 empty seats, not counting the sections behind the stage, which were not sold for this show.

Also, I was surprised at how many were there mainly to see Bonnie.

My favorite parts are that it seems at times during the MK solo parts that Bonnie shakes her head a bit, as in amazement.  Then, near the end, Mark kind of throws his head back while the brass is playing, as if he were saying "get a load of how great these guys are".    But, the handshake with Bonnie at the end looked awkward.   She walked over and initiated it as Mark stood still, which was strange too.  You would have thought a quick hug, or an arm around the shoulder would have been more appropriate than a half grab of a hand.

Nah, I'm not the type to approach people at random that I don't really know. A few people stopped to say hi. He had some kind of special pass. I was pretty far back on the floor so I was surprised to see the VIP passes didn't include seating closer to the stage. So much for being a VIP.  :lol

Incredible performance last night! Mark was at his best for sure. Very emotional concert for me, knowing that this could very well be the last. I even came to tears during the last couple of songs, As the concert was drawing to an end. Mark seemed very emotional as well during his end of the tour speech, his voice quivering. Wherever I go with Bonnie was amazing. The videos do not do it justice in my opinion. To anyone who has not seen Bonnie Raitt live, I highly recommend it. What an incredible talent. Mark has been my soundtrack for the past 30 years. We will have to wait and see what happens in the future, but I had a very strong feeling during the final few notes of Going Home, that this was my last time seeing Mark, and it brought me to tears.

Tour t-shirts were discounted?

I happened to notice that the tour shirt that I bought earlier in the North American tour for $40, was only $30 last night.   It was odd to think of anything being less expensive at a MSG event.   I then figured it might be that they had too many shirts in inventory, and so cut the price to sell more at the last show of the tour.   Hope some of you got in on the deal.

Wow, what a whirlwind. Just getting unpacked. Just a few thoughts for now, more later. I have never, in person or otherwise, seen as much emotion from Mark that he displayed last night. You wouldn't have been able to tell from up front that there was a single person in the arena (which was far more filled than most of us would have guessed) that wasn't a die hard MK fan. A very, very special thanks to my close friends here for making the night special. From a few gifted drinks, to the offer for lodging, and everything in between. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I am not certain there was a dry eye in the front row. In fact, Lis had to give me a tissue three songs in..........

To be continued...

There's a video of MFN taken from the side and at the end it pans round showing it pretty much full with vacant seats only at the very extreme ends.  I suspect people may have been relocated though.

I'm very surprised how full it looks, especially when it looked pretty sparsely filled only last week on the MSG website.   I'm really pleased for MK and the band.

Quoting Guy : "Age, 59, singing the intro to Money For Nothing at Madison Square Garden, looking out to a sea of camera phones lighting up eleven thousand smiles. "

11 000 maybe ? which is highly respectable, the greater number since Dire Straits shows ?

I really enjoy everyones tidbits snd observations.. thank you for sharing.
Here are my humble impressions of a Night With Mark K At  Madison Square Garden for those not there. I was in the floor seats just right of the center section in the 14th row.
Now that I have had some sleep and a 4 hour drive home on I-95; ( playing Speedway for 80 miles, who needs caffine?) - I decided to leave the raw video of "Wherever I Go" as is... I really like it just like that. And I love watching everyone's video; you catch different things from different views.

Well what a beautiful, joy filled evening. Standing there as they sang "Wherever I Go"
I think in the moment we all felt both awe and sadness combined, but Mark was not sad at any of the three shows I attended. He was smiling, laughing, and playing on fire... enjoying his band as they played. Mark Knopfler reminds me of the Loving Spoonful line in "Do You Believe  in Magic" -
"How the magic's in the music and the music's in me."

Mark K said on the "Everywhere I Go" Video-
"Well it's been a heck of a trip, I can tell you that."
He thanked the road crew. ( Myself and others counted at least 8 or 9 tractor trailers out on 33rd.)
I feel Mark's voice broke a little then, when he called out to the crowd,
"And to everybody out there, I just want to say thank you so much for making the end."

To those who asked about the crowd, it ended up being an almost fully packed house. You can look at Guy Fletchers' blog photos if you are curious.

So I have two more MSG videos to add to the stupendous collection.
Thanks for sharing, you front row guys!

I mentioned the other day that the arena was about 90% full. On a Wednesday night in NYC, during a week where people stayed away because of the clown show called the UN, I would say, "pretty good". Also, the sections behind the stage were not for sale, so the max was reduced from like 18,000 down to about 15,000. Furthermore, at 90% full, that's 13,500!

If they would have advertised it as "former leader of Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler", it would have been totally sold out- I live in NY and from experience, when I refer to Mark Knopfler, many people say "who?" and I say "from Dire Straits", and they say, "oh, yeah, he's amazing...". Maybe MK didn't want to be associated this the DS name, especially after the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame disaster and his unhappiness over the tribute and fake DS bands.

Saul

ps, On Guy's tour diary for the MSG show, there are two pictures from behind Mark, that shows the crowd. The first is after BIA and right before Wherever I Go, while the second was taken after Going Home. I am the guy to the right of Mark, in the light blue shirt...you can't miss it since it stuck out like a sore thumb! Awesome.

Was a pleasure to be there. Wanted a better streaming, with a special camera I have for that, but a chinese piece in the chain broke, so I had to use plan B, which ended in a burned image, but a stable connection and great sound. It was a dream to be 2nd row centered. My pals also had problems. All in all, I´m happy that people from far away could watch it live. Tatito now means a lot for so much fans.

Hope to upload my audio recording today or tomorrow.

I was there... and I can ensure you that this was a hell of a show. Mark was rested, in a very good mood, and played very well with a lot of emotion. SAN and MFN solos were incredibly powerful. My only complain (save for WIG  which was not at all what I had hoped for) is that John's violin was unplugged at the beginning of SAN, so the violin intro could not be heard. Otherwise it was perfect...

Correct, I wasn't there.  I can hear when he isn't playing as well as at other shows, without having to attend every show thanks to YouTube.  As I said it wasn't a bad performance per se, but a few songs had been played better at recent shows IMHO.  :)

I have question that someone might help me with. Although I attended three USA concerts
Wolftrap, Grand P and MSG - all great) I bought resale tickets so I of course, I will not be getting a free CD.
The deluxe DTRW CD is sold out on MarkKnoplfer.com.
Does anyone know where I can buy one?
Thanks!

It's available on Amazon (although not Prime Eligible): https://www.amazon.com/Down-Road-Wherever-Deluxe-Knopfler/dp/B07GR89ZJG/ref=sr_1_1?crid=24DS61IE5MZ75&keywords=down+the+road+wherever+deluxe+cd&qid=1569969501&sprefix=down+the+road+wherever+%2Caps%2C160&sr=8-1

Also, I should add that, there are three bonus tracks, which are not included in this deluxe CD. Those are available only in the special box set vinyl LP. However, you will find those songs easily on Youtube.

There are a few posts speculating at the attendance for this show.   I mentioned that I could see a few thousand empty seats in an earlier post.  But, there is a more concrete estimate, as both Guy's and Richard's blogs both quote 11,000 as the attendance number.   MSG holds about 19,750 max for a concert, including the seats behind the stage.   I've never seen a capacity number quoted for concert seating excluding the seats behind the stage, but a guess would be about 15,000.

To jbanik- Thank you  for the link but...
Some sweetheart over at MK.com must have seen my post because I was just sent a complimentary code for DTRW!
Thanks so much for that, it was terribly kind.

I have been thinking about all of you out there with Mark Knopfler withdrawal symptoms. No more nightly concerts to watch and blogs to read. No more looking up last minute plane fares, and trying to find decent resale tickets for just 'one more show.'
I counted enough USA concerts to figure at least 200,000 attendees. Probably more.

Out of that number I suspect at least half would have willingly chased the jet down the runway at JFK screaming, "Stop the plane!" if you thought it would keep him here. (Just kidding.)

Anyway I found this video link in my pile I have saved. Many probably have already seen it, from 2016 Bill Wyman BD party in London. A classic.
May it make you smile, as a new song you haven't perhaps heard; always helps- especially a "ruffle."

What the heck! I had not seen that video from Bill Wyman’s party before. That was friggin awesome! I haven’t really seen Mark play guitar like that for a while. Great video! Thanks!

There are 1 or 2 more from that same night you can find. Google or youtube.

As for others one of my favorite performances is
Gravy Train !! - What a night that would have been, to be there.
And the lyrics are  hilarious.

Second:
Enjoy this, the full TV performance and conversation on the Imus in The Morning show-

Many probably have already seen it, from 2016 Bill Wayman BD party in London. A classic.

I mentioned this clip in a different thread. Mark may not be in a good enough shape to pull off convincing renditions of Telegraph Road and Sultans, but this stuff is clearly within his comfort zone. I definitely wish he'd played more stuff like this during the tour.

You should try to mix the two together, because soundboards sold via MK's website lacks this "live" feeling to me, a lot of times audience recordings sounds better feeling-wise.

Excellent versions of ITILYTM, probably my favourite. Mark stood motionless centre stage, Pensa glimmering like the most beautiful thing on the planet, and totally in the song, in the moment. Pure Knopfler, and of course our first glimpse of the pedal steel genius Paul Franklin. Wonder how many of us were thinking oh god, pedal steel, country music, DS was hard enough to explain to my mates... :lol

I've just been listening to / watching the NHB concert from Lockerbie. Poor quality, but brilliant show. Mark plays great, and Paul Franklin is out of this world.

I have posted a link to download my audience source of this show below. I actually would prefer not to mix it with the (to be released) soundboard, unless it turns out to be much better quality than the others. I've most kept quiet, but I really don't care for the sound of the soundboard recordings from this tour. Many of them are plagued by distortion in the low end, and they all sound like they were made to be broadcast on FM radio with tons of compression. It really is quite puzzling how recordings from 2019 could sound like this, particularly considering how excellent the sound was at the shows in the audience. Anyway...

Thanks for the audience recording! It has confirmed something I had noticed when at the concert... MK's vocal was really low in the mix. Having heard other shows and attending in Glasgow I was surprised at this. Hopefully the official recording will have him a little louder than he was on the night.

Indeed.

I also believe that Matt used to play a better solo -- at least it suited the song best I think -- than Jim's.

Sadly it was never fully realised.  I had much hope after the first show in Barcelona, however that turned out to be one of the best versions played.  It never progressed and Mark never took a solo at the end.  There was one show in Bordeaux he did actually and didn't leave space for the other guys to come in but it was just noodling about really.  Maybe it was an experiment to see how it could progress but he decided against it.  Pity.

Danny at the end of SAN breaks my heart, I think MK's music really means a lot to him.

What did he do? I cant find it in the video (whole NY concert on youtube) or dont know what to look for...
