Title: Future DS Releases ?
Post by: Brucefan987 on July 10, 2019, 02:58:37 PM
Hi all,

I am new to this forum and sorry if I am re-posting information that maybe on here, and by the way greetings and best wishes to you all.

Does anybody have an ideas if there will be any future DS releases, especially Live ones.

It seems as though the archives for the band have never been opened and I would be over the moon if an official Brothers in Arms Tour CD/DVD was ever released.

If anyone has any information or rumblings then that would be appreciated.

Thanks - Kevin

Your guess is as good as anyone here.  :D :think :thumbsup
Even though MK would never re-unite DS the chances of future releases are there of course. Why not. MK and his management must have tons of older material.
Fascinating idea.... what treasures he is holding back  :)

The thing that could hold him back and never release anything unknown DS related recordings, would maybe be that he does not want for people to think of a DS re-union or more pressure for more DS material. But it is his legacy.
A combined jubilee package of some sort would be superb.

I heard they would release the missing songs from On the Night at the rate of 1 every 50 years

My guess is that it isn't in his agenda and Crooksford isn't going to twist his arm either.  Mark is more interested in making new records.

Some BIA tour stuff?  DVD from Wembley Arena 10th would do very nicely, thank-you very much!  OTN extra tracks?  Yes please!  Ain't gonna happen until Mark stops writing new songs IMO.

If he released old DS material, just as kind gesture towards the fans, it's going to be a topic during future interviews, and we all know he couldn't care less. Plus it would take the focus off new projects.

Never going to happen. Maybe after he's dead.

Correct, won't happen till after he's gone.

Prince didn't want his vault opened but his estate have ignored that.

Maybe after he's dead!  I think for the first time ever I said it more subtle.  :lol

No doubt such an estate will have to be geared up to maximize its value so I'm betting on a glut of old stuff when that fateful day comes....

We are all going to go one day, sad but true.

What's sadder is that after Mark is gone (subtler this time :) ), there probably will not be enough good reasons to release this kind of material. Can't really see a DS revival happen down the line.

Maybe there'll even be a specific instruction in the will not to release anything else. :)

I doubt that would be the case. Look at the recent investment portfolio in the DS back catalogue, and wouldn't you want to provide some form of income for those left behind?

Any instruction in a will would be meaningless in the sense that all that really matters is who owns/controls the back catalogue. Once your gone whoever you entrust your worldly goods to can basically do what they wish.

This is a depressing topic  :(

Hi again,

Nice to hear people's views, even if it is depressing  :o :(

I suppose I will have to continue watching the grainy versions of the Live in 85 Wembley show and live in hope. (its such a shame as so many artists have now opened their vaults and are reaping the benefits)

Thanks.

The only reason I could see Mark making a provision for a release to happen after he is gone (I agree, it's depressing to talk like this) is if somehow profits could go to charity. He once talked about maybe reuniting DS for charity purposes, but later discarded that thought because of all the attention and questions that would cause. After he's gone he obviously no longer will have to deal with media attention, band member issues, etc.

You would be surprised, there are releases of obscure material from much less successful artists than MK.

Whe just don't know, we can only rely on hope.

Maybe one day Mark will change his mind about releasing old material, he already allowed the Pathway demo.

Are these artists also stubborn as mules?  ;D

Some of them.

Sorry, I think my point was misunderstood.

I meant posthumously.

Did mk made a reference to adding more material to a future box or something like that?

Can't remember where and how he said something like that but I know I heard or read it.

No. He said it. Probably as a joke. Can't remember where and why but he said it.

Jbaent is right it was in one of the Down The Road Wherever promo interviews where he mentioned the phrase "for the box set later".. I remember very well as I thought of that being remarkable on that occasion.

Ok I correct myself as I found the interview, from Swiss NZZ (Neue Zürcher Zeitung). I provide no link as the interview is German but when asked about that he is so profilic and produces so many songs "... he grins and says, it's great so there are more songs left for the box set."  So he talks about the regular Deluxe Box Set bonus songs here. I guess I wanted to believe otherwise and mixed it up in my remembrance.

Thanks LE. You are probably right and he meant the deluxe box of his record release and not a future box with unreleased material...

I think the box set reference came up in the 2 hour interview with the BBCs Johnnie Walker back in 2015 which accompanied Tracker.
Mark always opened up more with the legendary JW!
