I thought why it's only Mark who shares music from his jukebox? Let's share ours. I'll start with a 2020 debut album by Holy Hive band from New York.
Track "Blue Light": https://holyhivemusic.bandcamp.com/track/blue-light-2

One from mine...
Josh Rouse. An American singer that changed Nashville for Valencia in Spain. He just fell in love with places like Altea, the "quiet town"

I've gotten into Shawn Colvin over the last years. Great music and top-notch production and audio quality. This one is particularly nice:

Terri Hendrix is an independent artist from Texas and has been going strong for over 20 years and 20+ albums. I hope you like her music as much as I do.

Here is another great American singer/songwriter, Tom Russell.
Most of the time it is just him and the guitar or a small piece band on the stage.
But for his 2012 live album "Aztec Jazz" he was backed up by the Norwegian Wind Ensemble.
I think the result of this powerlful arrangement to his songs is worth a listen.

My pleasure. Producer is John Leventhal, Rosanne Cash's husband. He's also a killer guitar player.

How 'bout some dope electronica, yo? This Anders Trentemøller, a Danish electronic music composer. I'm not really into electronica, but this is nice stuff. Melodic and soothing (a far cry from eurotrash or dance music!).

If you have 20 minutes to spare for an instrumental, and one which is going to stay with you I hope, have a listen and don't pay attention to the title this is quite a political band and most of their work has a message.

We all know and love Van Morrison's masterpiece "Into The Mystic", but what you may not know, is that there exist a Deluxe Edition of the Moondance record with some outtakes. And in it, it has the 11th take of "Into The Mystic" without any overdubs and whatnot. To me, this stripped-down 3-piece sound much better than the original wall of sound with strings and horns. Just amazingly simple and beautiful.

I was enjoying listening to Van Morrison and click on the answer button which stopped the song of course...
...anyway really nice version à la "Let it Be naked"!
In the meantime, not really original these days but I have to post this one

Since Spotify has at least launched in Russia, I started my own playlist, right now consist of 238 songs (almost 15 hours), I know many of you can find something interesting in there, so enjoy:

Talking about songs is too much fun. I'll continue... I'm sure EVERYBODY knows the song "What A Wonderful World" sung by Louis Armstrong, some of you may know the "full version" with the "spoken introduction" with wise words from Satchmo about hunger and pollution. But I always thought, the introduction is great, but it always plays the original studio recording after... I thought, what version this introduction came from? And because I'm extremely concerned about these things, I've spent a good couple of hours finding the original version. And I actually found it, it's right there on YouTube since 2011. And it turned out to be an amazing version, easily as good as the original, but yet with the completely different arrangement. Enjoy!

One of the best youngish jazz players today. Crazy good virtuosity, but also extremely musical and joyful playing.

Here's Blake Mills with the group Dawes - both featured on Mark's broadcast. One of my all-time favorite performances. Unbelievable feel in his playing, and the synergy with the band is so great.

Julian Lage is a kind of guy who can easily inspire you to give up playing the guitar. What I don't like about geniuses and prodigies like him though is his facial expressions... If I watch this guy play, I only listen, because oh my... These expressions are too much for me to handle. Also, on the side note, I have no idea how he's able to play with 100% perfect intonation on a vintage Telecaster with a 3-barrel bridge. But what do I know, I'm not a genius.
-
Yeah, Julian, and Chris Thile too, can be a bit hard to watch, but I've watched a few interviews with them, and these guys are genuine. They are like this. They probably are bit "disconnected" from the real world, but it's ok. I mean look at some of the classical musicians and conductors too; they are quite into it :)

My absolute favourite classical musician to watch perform is John Williams (guitar player, not the film music composer lol). Not only his playing is perfect, but he never does "I'm a genius, I'm out of this world" expression on his face. Let's face it (lol), facial expressions may be one of the most beloved pet peeves among the musicians. Because sometimes it's genuine, like in Mark Knopfler case. Sometimes it's natural just like you've said. Clearly Julian is really out of this world, so he can afford those expressions. But most often it's just pretending, and that, my friends, I can't stand.

I have quite a hard time watching this guy. I'm not saying he is faking his facial expressions, but I really cannot stand his personality. So self-centered it is painful.

wow, this is a great versie, so stripped down. Those drums and bass really come to life, not being buried underneath. Nice find!

Here's a song by David Campbell, a native American, Sky Man and the Moon, quite an atmosphere and a voice à la Chris Isaac strangely enough. Enjoy.

While I kinda agree, he still keep giving tips and tricks for composing wherever he can, so it’s a thumbs up from me. Also that live version of Slow Dancing in a Burning Room is heaven for my ears

It's true. He seems to have grown up and matured. His playing and tone are fantastic though. Good songwriter too.

Great artist, composer and guitar player (acoustic and electric) who deserves a lot more attention. He is a permanent member of Jimmy Buffett's band.

Discovered this very talented artist, Sarah Jarosz. After digging a bit, I found out that her guitarist was Jedd Hughes, an Australian guitarist who plays beautifully and guess who one of the guitarists who influenced him was? ;)

Mark played a lot of The Everly Brothers songs in his broadcast, and I want to share a great album of covers done by unexpected duo: Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones.
This one, Oh So Many Years, is so good I actually like it more than the original:

Here's my absolute favourite version of The Long And Winding Road from the rehearsals of Parkinson Show with Paul McCartney (the actual version from the show broadcast not as beautiful). Only Macca and a piano, it doesn't get better than this!

Speaking of stripped down versions, I never was a fan of "wall of sound" approach, because while it can sound lush, it beats the life out of music, and any version beyond that sound more full and live. Like this version of one of the best songs ever written, Bridge over Troubled Water, with only Art Garfunkel's voice and a piano — it doesn't get better thant this either.

Something that has nothing to do with MK or any genre linked to MK. Just what I happen to be listening to now. I didn't even know Deep Purple still existed as a band, much less that they're still releasing new albums. I have to say their new album just released earlier this month is very good. Here's a track from it.

New Fleet Foxes album, "Shore", is out TOMORROW. Wow.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Jrh1IRv6Pw
Also, coming soon albums from Melody Gardot feat. Sting, new Elvis Costello album, some pretty cool stuff are on its way.
-
Speaking of Fleet Foxes, I suspect the group now undergoes almost the same type of thing that happened to Dire Straits in terms of it's not a group per se, but a solo project of Robin Pecknold with a name and EVERYBODY knows that he's the ultimate leader of the project, and yet it's still "a band". Even the way Robin outlined all the thank you notes on the album screams that it's his solo project. But anyway, it always funny to me that stuff like that still goes through as a band record.

Yeah, great band! Probably my biggest find thanks to Mark is the band Yo La Tengo. What a fantastic 2000 album, so many great songs!
I wish I would find this album when I was a little kid, and not 20 years later... But Mark probably thinks the same.
