Love that video, a great combination of a whistle and a guitar. Sad two of these guys are now gone!

"Today marks a sad farewell to Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains. Paddy was great company and a force of nature in Irish music, with all the energy and talent required to drive things along over the years. I am proud to have recorded and played with him.’

This year alone, 5 people who has passed away is mentioned on the MK website. I really hope Mark see that he should do things *now*, and not wait. In theory, he has been almost a year in BG, and we don't even get a studio diary. No news. He hasn't been there all the time of course, and the pandemic probably is the main reason for the delay, but I can't help to be a bit worried.

Your thoughts go through my mind, too.

I think the cool thing about MK is he can't rush his work at all, I think he's naturally slow (Slow Learner, huh?) and loves to work slow, so he can't possibly rush his work even if all his colleagues would die. That can only affect his writing, I'm afraid.
-
It is slow but not the slowest. Peter Gabriel once said that new album will be released in September. But he didn't say which year. And so it passed 20 years :)
-
I don't think it matters how long an album takes, aslong as the end result is good,
-
Amazing to think about the body of work The Beatles produced in just 7 years...

....and there was always an obvious hook in most of their songs.
-
Sorry to go on about The Beatles so much but it amazes me that they have so many album tracks that if they were released by anyone else in the 60s would be all time classics today. Things like Things We Said Today or And Your Bird Can Sing.
-
Let's not forget that Mark has been releasing a new album regularly for 20 years. Every two or three years.
-
Yes, and they have been consistently high quality (IMO). Imagine you were a Billy Joel fan, he hasn't done anything new in nearly 30 years.
-
Exactly!

Totally agree, and as its MK the Album will be another perfection!!

Unlike his tours though :o

Maybe this is hijacking the thread but THERE is an example of a man who knows what his live audience wants and gives it to them.

MK has been packing them in since 1996 without playing a greatest hits set. I for one am happy he didn’t become a “legacy” act, maybe the tourists would disagree, but they seem to come back too…

Au Contraire, I think MKs tours have been amazing, we've been very lucky with the amount he's done....

I would never have wanted MK doing a greatest hits show. It's always good to look forward to some new material from the current album, even though it may be only two or three songs, which could become favourites in the future.

Agreed! I love MKs tours. :)

Yeah. I also think he is very quick.
every 2-3 years is a good yield.
Tours in between. Family time and so on

I am sure they would record a lot slower nowadays.
For MK and Guy BG is a big playground to spent a lot of time in.
Like going to office every day. Escape from their wifes. LOL.
There weren't that hightech studios in the 60s, so just jump in and record. No time to loose. Studio time was maybe too expensive.

He has done well - juggling life, writing music, recording and then touring...

So much for him being "lazy" I have been waiting since January 2017 for another Mike Oldfield album :( and nothing on the horizon there, so, Mark has been really prolific in his solo career, don't forget all those bonus songs could make another album or 2.

From a Gilmour perspective 'Rattle that lock' was 2015 & 'On an Island' 14 years before that!!
-
Yes, Gilmour is working on another solo album, but who knows when that will be released.
