Title: In which countries in the world Dire Straits record had been released
Post by: Klaus74 on March 04, 2022, 11:14:50 PM
That is my most important question as a vinyl-maniac. Maybe our fellow collector Frelon94 can help me and some other worldwide-collectors of DS and MK vinyls. :thumbsup

First of all, to me, it is very thrilling and interesting to see, in which countries on the globe, Dire Straits records had been released. But, i have some gaps in my world-wide-collection and some gaps in my knowledge on the subject of worldwide releases.

What do you think about the following countries. Are there any Dire Straits or Mark Knopfler vinyls in those countries ??
Lets have a start with the 7-Inch records:
Israel, Turkey, Pakistan, Lebanon, Egypt, Persia (Iran), Kenya, Nigeria, Angola, Mozambique, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar, India, Malaysia, Taiwan, South-Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Costa-Rica, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Colombia, British Honduras, Cuba, Barbados, Jamaica, French Guyana. ??  :think Is there anything to explore in that case in the near future.?

What about the LP-Albums in the mentioned countries ??
And:
What about 12-inch maxi-singles in the mentiones countries ??

I have various countries in my collection, but im not so sure in which countries are Dire Straits LP-Albums, 7-Inch-Singles or 12-Inch-Singles could be released in the past.
If someone has additional information and experiences in that case, please feel free to share them with us here.
Cover and Label-pics are also welcome.

Hello again.
I left out those countries in my listings, where proofely Dire Straits and MK-vinyls had been released.
It can be possible, that in various countries  LP-Albums only had been released and no 7-Inch or 12-Inc h records are available, or the other way around. Who knows more ? :think

Hi Klaus, I have at least one record from Israel (their debut), South Korean - Brothers in arms (which does not have Ride across the river, probably due to bringing back memories from the civil war) and an odd collection, and I also think that i have Money for nothing from Bulgaria and  I have seen many cassette tapes from Turkey and Saudi Arabia, but of dubious legality.
There is a very good possibility that there are Taiwan issues, although probably not official. I have seen Czechoslovakian records too, and if memory serves me well Indian. Jamaica issued several odd ones in the 80ies, but haven't seen any DS.

Yeap, just took a random one at discogs and look what i've found. https://www.discogs.com/master/23759-Dire-Straits-Dire-Straits?sort=country&sort_order=asc Scroll down to see the countries. And if you do the same thing with the other records you will find your answer! Costs a fortune now to get all these from around the world, especially shipping cost. I started collecting various editions 30 years ago, but gave up.

Hi vgonis. Yes i also know the discogs-listings. I have filled it up, with some exotic issues by myself.
I have all DS LP-Albums from Israel, except MFN Best of, OES and OTN, but no 7-Inch record and no 12-inch-records. I also have all South-Korean LP-Albums except OTN, no SIngles and no Maxi-Singles again.
Yes, there is one MFN-LP-Album in Bulgaria released on the former state-controlled label BALKANTON. In Turkey some LP-Albums had been released, but hard to get as pristine copies. I only own BIA as Turkey-Philips-Edition. Just have a closer look to that Turkey-Tape-Editions, some have the Vertigo-Label on the cover and the Tape-labels. The Saudi-Arabian Editions are Thomsun and something like that.
Taiwan has legitimate issues on the Vertigo-SWIRL-Label, and there are some local-record labels, too. Like POP-Records, FIRST-Records, NEW-JEN-SHENG-Records and so on.
Czech Republic has also it´s own label from the past, called SUPRAPHON Records. I have LOG and BIA from Czech Republic. Hungary has MFN and OES on GONG-Vertigo records. Earlier western-pop and rock-records had been released in Hungary on Hungaroton or on Pepita-Records, like some Beatles-Albums. I also have a Communique from INDIA, pressed in Bombay on Vertigo-Swirl-label. Absolutely crazy.
