Hi all, i thought it would be a fun idea to start a thread where we name Dire Straits songs and the very last time they've been played live. And if possible, please link the respective bootleg or recording.
For instance, i'm really curious to know when Tunnel Of Love has been played for the last time. I've read MK stopped playing it after the death of his father because TOL was his father's favorite song. This must've been somewhere in 1993. Maybe someone knows the exact date and concert and maybe someone has a recording / bootleg.
I'll start:
Ride Across The River: April 26 1986
Expresso Love: April 26 1986
Industrial Disease: April 26 1986

Cool topic:)

I checked On Every Bootleg, which has entries (of recordings) of the last DS shows in Spain, and in fact, Barcelona 2nd of October 1992 was the last time Tunnel was performed, you can check it out yourself.

But On Every Bootleg does not contain full (complete) shows.
But in fact, October 3, Tunnel Of Love was gone.

That Range Rover set list always winds me up. Corporate guests get to hear the hits but paying fans were kind of made to feel rude at for asking for them. "Mark only looks forward" except when a massive cheque or bank is involved. Rant over

We ranted about that when it happened quite a lot already!

Without exaggeration. We have heard these songs at concerts a million times. Do you remember the concert at Boothay Harbor? It was a concert of surprises!

I am inclined to agree. But I guess that if you’re able to hire Mark for a corporate then to your mind you’re hiring Dire Straits. From Mark’s POV there has to be a difference between playing a song once to please your crowd and playing it 80 times on tour.

put it all into a spreadsheet.
if there is interest to continue work on it
arranged it by "record, song, first date, first location, last date, last location"
a while back i made an overview of all songs (known about) played live during DS concerts (cannot remember if i did MK as well)
and that may help adding the "first time" (but also to identify other "last time" cases)

I would love to have a compilation of early DS songs played by Mark on his later tours.

Wouldn't be a huge compilation! I guess depend what you are calling "early"
Sultans
Water of Love
Portobello Belle
Once Upon a Time In The West
Romeo & Juliet if Making Movies is still early...
-
I consider the first two Dire Straits albums with the original four-man lineup to be the 'early' era. Chronologically I can understand the case for including Making Movies in this era, but musically I think both the album and subsequent tour show a clear shift towards longer songs and increased use of keyboards. These trends became even more apparent in the Love Over Gold era, which I definitely do not consider as part of the early phase, not least because the bulk of the setlist consisted of songs from the two more recent albums with only a few surviving representatives from the debut and Communique.

I like that point of view.

Good catch! I had racked my brain for the solo tours to be honest, forgot obout the other odds and sods.

Yes, a compilation of all DS songs Mark played on his solo tours would be great. But I guess this will never happen. :(

Would love Lions too. Unlike something like Tunnel Of Love, Lions feels like it should still be more than manageable in his older age.

You could possible include Wild West End played on BIA tour.
