I was thinking about this the other day, and two came to mind:
Brothers in Arms
On Every Street

Piper to the End
Although in reality I was in floods of tears after Going Home at the last tour as I knew it was probably the last time I would see my hero play, and the last time I would share this experience with friends I have made over a 20 year period :'(

A place where we used to live

Wow, that's a great topic indeed. I don't think Mark's catalog is a good source for cry-inducing songs specifically, but everything already listed can give you some chances to shed tears depending on the situation. Usually, and I mean always, his songs bring optimism and happiness and I cry because of happiness if you know what I mean. The feeling Bob Dylan described in one of his songs as “It frightens me, the awful truth of how sweet life can be.”
On Every Street makes me emotional when I merely recite lyrics in my head: "There's gotta be a record of you someplace", "And you still refuse to be traced", "Somewhere your fingerprints remain concrete", etc.
The Alchemy introduction to Tunnel Of Love live version and the song itself gave me probably the biggest emotional dives in my life when I was a kid, I just went straight to the cosmos listening to it on repeat. It's probably the ultimate tears shedding song MK ever got.

Hill Farmer's Blues and Love Over Gold

Where do you think you're going?
8th September 1979 Orpheum, Boston

El macho

If this is goodbye and So far from the Clyde, but there are others too, depending on my mood

Telegraph Road - tears of joy - this song always gets me.

Hand in hand.
When I was young a love letter was delivered to me while listening to this song. I turned it down, no regrets, but always connected to the song. (Sorry for too much information ;) )

I find there's something very special in the On the night live version of Brothers in Arms, some time after that pedal steel solo I always get a bit teary eyed and goosebumps.

RIGHT
I know some people for some reason constantly bash the On The Night album (WHY?), but yeah, Brothers In Arms is absolutely epic there. Monumental version, I also love Mark's simple outfit with a white T-shirt.

My Bacon Roll.
Crying in bafflement as to why it’s on the album….
Seriously, BIA is an obvious choice. As is If This is Goodbye.
I second Heart Full of Holes too-especially if it IS about the holocaust as some have speculated.

I liked MK in the white T-shirt too, much nicer than the blue and white striped vest at Basel!

And of course the girl with tears in her eyes during Brothers In Arms on On The Night. It's hard to forget.

I have to be in a mood to hear it. Always a tear drops when hearing it
Runner up: Maybe Piper to the End

In 1985, when i first heard Dire Straits music in my life, Brothers in arms drove tears in my eyes, rapidly. Absolutely amazing, what music can do with your emotions and thaughts. That was my start to follow Marks finest music. 8)

That vest was a crime. Unbelievable. Ed, or anyone in the band, should have made sure it "got lost" somehow.

Mark's music doesn't make me cry, but the last two verses of Telegraph Road make me a little emotional, especially the Alchemy version. He puts so much emotion into his singing there. Great performance.
