Title: Joe Satriani
Post by: Pottel on June 07, 2022, 04:18:43 PM
i know the man has many haters on here, but i have always been a fan, and even more so after seeing him live back in 94 or 5.
now i heard this live recording of the song, Light years away, and boy does have it an interesting solo, i call it, Joe's own "twiddly bits" as Mark calls his Sos Signature piece

Hi,

saw Joe Monday in Oberhausen after 2015.
The man is 65 but is still in very good shape and mood and one of the fastest guitarists of our time.
He played 2.55h with a break of 15 minutes.  :clap
26 Songs. Great concert. Venue was cool. Sound awful.
I found his concerts from 2014 and 2015 better because of Marco Minnemann on Drums and Mike Keneally on Keys and Guitar but hey...
Still unsure if I would go again. First one was 1993. Now we have 2023
Let's see and wait.
I somewhere heard the bells that Pottel was also there???   8)

i knew i had seen your name on his insta entry about the show! and i remember thinking, naaaaahhh, not his style. such a pity! we could have met again after so many years!
i thought the sound was terrible, one big soup of noise.
Saw the man live the last time in 95 or so, in his prime, back at vorst nationaal in Brussels ( many times bigger then this small hall) and the sound was great then
did not like the drummer, Kenny aronoff, did not like the keyboard player, nor the bass player.
there were certainly great moments during the show, but the band did not "carry" him like his legendary sideman of the olden days did, Matt Bissonette, and Stu Hamm...
did not play the songs i had hoped for and my recording did not work out (at all, no recording happened as i forgot to format the SD card)
Besides the fact that the concert orga was really good, and no parking 7 miles from the venue, and having to wait for hrs at the bar to drink (went amazingly fast) it was a show to quickly forget for me.
i wonder what the rec. would have sounded like, coz sometimes these recording devices pick up sound differently than our ears do but still...
that last album IS a great one by the way.
