A very important album for me. First I saw the cover of the album and then it all began.

Morceaux « mis de côté »

It is worth remembering one more song from this period. The Way It Always Starts.

Memories aren't reliable, but I remember new releases coming out on a Monday back in the day, then the charts were announced on a Sunday...

A review made with depth and mastery for a work of art that deserves to be recognized at the height of what it represents within the music of the 20th century.

This album fascinated me from the first time I saw the cover, it started hooking me right there, this was at the end of the last century, I didn't arrive late, because this work is timeless, and as impactful as in the days of its release.

Thank you JF.

Telegraph Road 40 years old and still amazing. This song will forever stand out.
My favorite Dire Straits song. I can't imagine a life without their music.

The first time I heard this album was when I was first getting into DS and my Gran borrowed the LP from the Library as a surprise for me.  When I went to visit on it went for a spin and it wasn't long before the CD was bought!  I couldn't believe it when I looked at the sleeve and saw the length of the tracks and that there was only two on side one!

Only just recalled my first listen just now.  The album has a special place for me now.

I consider this album to be the pinnacle of the Dire Straits discography, it has always been my favourite from the first time I listened to it. I love all five songs individually but the album as a whole is cohesive with a strong flow, which I think is also important.

Telegraph Road is the jewel in the crown and one of my absolute favourite songs of all time. A musical masterpiece, but also thoroughly listenable, which is not always the case for 'epic' tracks.

The amazing thing is that it's kind of like a prog album with the longer songs, but released in the 80s when that type of thing was dead and buried and prog bands like Genesis, Pink Floyd and Yes were releasing snappy pop singles.

Yes and no. There was also Marillion and neo progressive rock in the 80's has some beautiful and important albums.

There's always the odd exception but for the most part prog was gone, even Marillion were best known by the masses for their pop singles.

exactly. That's what I said in my article

DS were always out of fashion : they started with their laid-back-country-blues-clean-sound during punk era, and then played prog influenced music (both in studio and on stage) during new wave / FM rock period in first mid eighties
