Title: Peter Gabriel new record and tour
Post by: jbaent on November 15, 2022, 08:20:52 AM
Last week I received a shocking email from the Peter Gabriel official account... an advert for a new Peter Gabriel tour to promote his new album!

Shocking by two reasons, one, the anouncement of the tour came just two hours prior to the fans presale, and two, Gabriel has been working on a new album since early 2000's so by one reason or another it took him around 18-20 years to release it!

A fan presale in that hurry is quite unfair to me as it gives you very little time to make plans specially if you are going with friends and have to agree with them which dates fits better, I don't get why to make that announcement with so little advance.

And when it comes to the new record, that hasn't any release date announcement yet, even after the tour has been on sale already, just think about this when we say Knopfler is slow!

Looks like I'm never happy unless I have something to complain about,  :lol :lol :lol :lol

You are absolutely right on all points.
Fan Presale started with almost no advance warning, so best seats were already gone once I read about it.
No album release date yet.
Compared to Gabriel MK is quicker with his next album... (but Gabriel seems to be the only counterexample  :lol)

Still I am looking forward to seeing him again next year!

I was lucky enough to attend the "Back to front" tour, and I would had loved to be able to see one of the "paper rock scissors" with Sting. I was thinking in getting one of the presale tickets for Birmingham just in case, but I didn't had time to agree with my friends if going or not as they saw my whatsup about it late so we missed the slot and the tickets available were expensive and bad, so we just let it go.

I will go to Cologne where the good tickets were already gone and decided to buy a 70€ far away seat as a reasonable compromise just to see the show and PG after a very long time.

If it's your first time with him, you are going to be amazed by his show, Gabriel is a total showman. If it's not, you know what I'm talking about  :D

Yes, it is true, but today he certainly could not perform all the stunts. I saw him on the Growing Up 2003 tour.A great experience.

Are you saying that Mark could be about 90 by the time his new album is released then?  :o

Even the most optimistic can rule out a tour at that stage.  lol

I say we are lucky MK is not Gabriel, lol

Also David Gilmour is quite slow with new records!

Checking his discography this timescale isn't unusual for him so it's not really comparable.

So (1986)
Us (1992)
Up (2002)
Scratch My Back (2010)
New Blood (2011)
i/o (2022)

This miss four PG records prior to "So", and "Scratch my back" is a record of covers, "New blood" is a live record of that record of covers, also misses OVO, which was the record he did for the Millenium Dome celebrations in 2000.

His last studio record with his own songs was "Up" in 2002. It is true that he didn't stopped playing live and doing other stuff, but he was working og I/O since he released "Up" in 2002, so thats 20 years, quite a lot.

Manu Katche, who was also present at PG's book presentation for EYE-D in Paris this Sunday, mentioned that there are plans for a second PG Euorpean Tour in 2024 although the plans are not yet finalized.
Maybe you'll get a chance there to see him.

2024, wow! That's planning with time, LOL, that would be perfect if the new album is already out, and I like it, LOL

Thanks

This surprises me. Tickets are very expensive, up to 200 Euro in some countries. And not sold out at this moment but there is still some time before the tour starts.
