Title: Vinyl question
Post by: Love Expresso on December 04, 2023, 12:49:11 PM
So the second Studio Albums Box Set contains the Down the Road Wherever Album in a new, longer version with 17 tracks instead of 13, although with a different running order.  But with so many tracks on two LP's, it may be a question of quality. Therefore I wanted to ask about your experimence with it. Does it still sound good or would you prefer the original release plus Bonus LP? Thanks.

The CD version only has 13 songs. I prefer the first version from 2018 and 16 songs on one album. I don't know about vinyl because I prefer CD :)

Also please, is the new Edition from the box a gatefold?

I don’t have the box but I guess theoretically that version COULD sound less good because there is an extra track on each side. Whether someone would notice is a different matter.

Maybe someone on YouTube has done an unboxing where you could see if it’s a gatefold?

For what it’s worth, I was slightly disappointed with the discs on the previous box. They were a bit noisy. I believe they were made at the notorious GZ plant.

Yeah, Mike Child has indeed done an unboxing video and in the second box there are all gatefolds which is an improvement to the first one I guess. He mentioned the bad quality of the first Box also (two concrete mistakes on Baloney Again and Postcards from Paraguay)  but obviously the vinyl in the second box seems to be better.

The idea of giving Get Lucky an extra side with the bonus stuff is something I can sympathize with although those bonus songs are not among his best ones.

I guess my ears (and my equipment) are just not good enough to really hear the difference of more tracks on an LP but I guess I will give it a try nett month or so.  I ordered the first Box and will receive it shortly before Christmas.
