the strings are different, three thinner ones are dark, I believe they're made of a different material and give a different sound.

Eh... presumably they're made of nylon?  :P

I have always thought that the song referred to London’s West End and general chaos, both literally and metaphorically.

Yes, and as you are not the only one thinking this there is growing evidence that it indeed is true. Thanks a lot, I never managed to make that step.

I don’t know why, but the nylon strings never seemed to work for me on the OES tour, perhaps because it was largely outside or in such large stadiums, that it lost that intimacy, but I never saw DS tour live in person, only the videos and maybe it didn't record as well (IMO)

Yes, it's a different feeling, especially because he's using a different model of guitar, a Ramirez, and the strings are different, three thinner ones are dark, I believe they're made of a different material and give a different sound.

Never told a soul by John Illsley features Mark on nylon ovation guitar :

Here we have a song that is very much in line with the vibe of what was on the LOG album, a huge influence, the echoes are clear, PI, LOG.

. those first three albums, although there was an "acoustic" element, with the National Steel in Wild West End and Portobello Belle

you can add Water of love and where do you think you're going wich features a proeminent folk guitar

and also Romeo and juliet which have National arpeggios and folk rhtyhm guitar

even TOL and Hand in hand has one !

I didn't add these songs because they don't have a nylon string guitar, and in most of these songs the guitar is the main character, and everything here has steel strings.

Must be different then, because the latter group is much larger and the group that are being heard like never before and earning money like never before are much, much smaller.
Yes, I agree that the group earning big money is much smaller, but the latter larger group is different, diverse, hard working, skilled and barely making it. This group would never have made it in the old days with demos, record companies and radio, but reach out to an audience through alternative distribution channels and methods. I am, though, a bit curious if this group is as large as I seem to claim it is, and I feel that I should be backing it with evidence.

I tried a quick google search (not solid evidence!), and the Google AI thing agreed with me, but those tend to agree with the questionnaire, so I wouldn’t thrust the answer:

«Yes, it's significantly easier for musicians to reach a potential audience today due to the internet, streaming services, and social media, which have removed traditional gatekeepers like record labels.» Then it went on to argue both sides.

I would nevertheless take the perspective into account, as I don’t believe it’s all black and white. Thanks for taking the time to debate this and other topics. It’s fun and enlightening

I never thought I'd say this, but I actually liked a number of the songs. Of course there's something fake about the whole thing, but had real humans reworked those songs into a 60s sound, it would have sounded awesome.

That said, there's of course the ethical and moral issues involved, as Chris mentioned. The theft of intellectual property, obviously, but also the enormous amount power consumed to generate this. And for what?!

My take is Mark forsees the decline of the west.

My understanding as well. Except he doesn't forsee the decline, but rather he describes it as it is happening all around him.

My take is Mark forsees the decline of the west. Even back then. He is a smart ass, remember.
Don't take the lines literally.
