One Deep River / The Boy / Re: RSD 2024 EP The Boy
« Last post by dustyvalentino on April 18, 2024, 11:45:46 PM »
Yesterday the Greek branch of the company sent us  an email that they will be delivering the RSD releases yesterday or today, but forbid to sell before Saturday. In deed they delivered today, so if someone is in this line of work or has an insider  friend, he could have the record since yesterday. Again I repeat that 3000 may seem like too few, but all previous releases, even the beautiful double 7'', were easily and cheaply found for a couple of years after their release. Of course now the hype is on another level, and we have many middle men that buy copies in order to sell at extorting prices, but I believe that in the end every die hard fan will be able to find a copy at the decent initial price. And MK is neither Taylor Swift or Lana Del Ray or Weeknd, who could claim 20.000 to be their limite editions... The MK fan base is another generation, altogether, with slightly different buying habits.
BTW, today they also delivered the limited colour edition of the new album. The same price with the standard black edition.

Good point. I’ve seen various social media posts hyping RSD from various stores and nobody seems to be hyping MK.

But I guess it just comes down to FOMO. And if there’s one MK fan in the queue in front of you… :)

There is this fantastic playlist on Spotify documenting (nearly?) all collaborative recordings with Mark's contributions: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1sI0IHsBN6GiStsiqeST5y?si=dBuaAHzGTQ24yirUnahs9A&pi=e-B2wLCU6XRnSp

In addition to the above mentioned releases, there's All the Road Running with Emmylou Harris and it's live album. There is also Golden Demos, a bootleg featuring some demos and rare tracks from the sessions leading up to Golden Heart. And there's some nice live recordings as B-sides!

Actually, the improvement may have started even earlier one, come to think of it.
I remember listening to "The Lily of the West" and thinking  "WTF, he never sang like this in DS!" At the time, he was still a smoker, though. Maybe it was because of the Hillbillies tours, singing all those harmonies?

I can easily imagine Leonard Cohen singing this one. It has that Cohen vibe, maybe it's the chord progression.

I have always loved Mark's vioce and I think with age it's getting better and better.
His voice also fits perfectly with the songs. I can't imagine anyone else singing his songs but him.
That's one of the reasons why I don't care about tribute bands.

I'm with you 100% with regards his voice, I also am not keen on tribute bands as I don't want to hear Ron the schoolteacher by day and lead singer/guitarist by night  trying to mimic 'The Master'

Our local record shop allows to preorder one album even it they don‘t know if they will get any!
As there are lots of different albums available they want to avoid that dozens or hundreds of people come at the same time when the shop opens.

He quit smoking around that time and finally detected that lungs are for breathing, too.
