I go along with Herlock in that I love this version of Skateaway.  I don't know why, but there's just something about it.  Maybe the passion Mark exudes in the performance, I don't know. :-\

Don't see this DVD on Amazon UK though.

Exactly, there is so much passion about it !
Call me crazy but I bought these dvds just for that song... I would not have bought it just for R&J with no end solo, I think.
It was not available on amazon.fr either - I had to order it directly from amazon.com with DHL shipping. You really have to want it...

Brilliant, I always loved marks' "choppy" playing on this one. And boy oh boy pick, best drummer ever

Well, nice version, but not extraordinary IMHO

I prefer the versions of the 2nd leg of the tour : wiesbaden, luxembourg, werchter, because on this version :

1) the outro is way too short
2) there's a little greenie at 1:38
3) ok it's a detail, but I don't like the black PUs look, I far prefer the white "alchemy" look  ;D  :smack

the only things why I like gigs from the beginning of the MM tour are :
- single handed sailor (linked with skateaway)
- in the gallery
- les boys

but all other songs were more developped at the end of the tour (like it's often the case) :

Waterline on Werchter has the piano solo, which isn't present on dortmund
outro on Skateaway was longer
WDYTYG from Wiesbaden is a real gem, while on late 80 it was more in the 79 style
etc...

speaking of official releases, have you ever noticed that the BIA tour was for many years the only ONE with NO official release.
All other tours had at least one song officialy released, in audio or video :

- 78/79 (I know it was several tours, but in terms of DS history, musically speaking, we can count it as one tour) : live at the BBC, and Alchemy bonus
- 80/81 : TOL from dortmund on live at the BBC, then alchmey bonus, and now this version of skateway
- 82/83 : alchemy
- 85/86: ????? even no ONE song. I don't count live aid, as for me it's NOT the BIA tour, it's a charity concert which took place during the BIA tour, but not a concert "from" the tour
- 91/92 : On the night
- 96 : ANIL + the bonus disc from the SOS bestof
- 01 : the bonus disc from the TRD album, and bonus track from WAM single
- 05 : official downloads
- 06 : real live roadrunning
- 08 : ok this is another one, but until 2008, there was only the BIA tour  which was ommitted
- 10 : usb sticks
- 13 : usb sticks

I always found strange that the 85/86 era, which was DS at their peak in term of commercial sucess (in term of music it's a matter of taste) was totally ignored by official release, while all other tours have at least one song officialy released  :hmm

Great post JF.  The outdo is too short, but that's TV restraints of course.  R&J misses some lyrics too.

I've noticed the greenie too, but it's not that bad so as to detract from the rest for me.

I like the black pick-ups!  A nice contrast. ;D

I have always thought exactly the same as your last paragraph statement and it's a great pity.  I think there is still a market for such a product, probably bigger than the market for a MK solo live DVD/CD.  I wonder if the whole concert of Wembley 10.07.85 survives i.e. RATR and other songs not broadcasted. :think

Of course it would be great to have Wembley'85 released, I second that ! also for the songs never broadcasted...
This being said, it is not true that the BIA tour had no official releases: we've got Live Aid... an average MFN (ruined by Sting) but a great SOS with sax... you'll tell me that Live Aid was not a proper DS show, but a TV program, and I'll say yes... but so are OGWT and Fridays for the OL tour releases ! ;)

Live Aid may not have been a "tour show" but the versions were the same and not compromised by being cut for TV.

Sting was really poor on MFN, an otherwise great version.  Not only by being out of tune but by singing the wrong lyrics at one point.  He sings "custom kitchen deliveries" instead of "we gotta move these colour TVeee's." ::)  He actually "sings" sorry when Mark go's into his solo!

well course, "je chipotte", but live aid is a charity concert like Mandela, prince trust, knebworth....

if DS hadn't been touring at the time, they would still have participated at the live aid.
counting live aid as part of the BIA tour would be like counting knebworth as part of the OES tour, or Montserrat as part of the GH tour...(yes I know dates don't really match, but you know what I mean).
I know I'm maniac, but on my hard disk, my bootlges are sorted by tour, and charity concerts are apart. And I sort Live aid with prince trust, mandela, knebworth, monsterrat, etc....not with wembley july 85...

No matter if it was a TV programm or not, it's the fact they were playing for a global concert, not for "them". On OGWT and Fridays, they were playing fro promoting DS album.

And, in the end, if we stay "logic", and we don't count TV programms (so no count of live aid, OGWT and Fridays) there's always the TOL version from dortmund for the OL tour release ! of course it was broadcasted for rockpop, but it a "real" DS gig, so this one counts !

Did I won ?  ;D ;) :lol

I sort my songs like that on my hard drive too JF, but funnily enough Live Aid sits in the BIA tour section for some reason.  I do agree with you though!  Maybe just a date thing with me. :hmm

On Audio maybe, but not on video: unfortunately TOL from Dortmund (wrongly labebled as OGWT 1981 on the "Live at BBC" album) was not released on video ! the whole concert should have been.. and the audio release is quite terrible... mono sound with no great quality...
