This whole demand for "unreleased" and longer" versions is beyond me. Almost always there is or was a goid reason to not release stuff. I appreciate MK's way of curating his work the way he does.

It is just special edition that is meant to be for fans, most big bands and artists do it.

Imagine, how this annuversay edition would had been, if designed by a fan:

cd1: Standard European edition:

01.What It Is
02 Sailing to Philadelphia
03 Who's Your Baby Now
04 Baloney Again
05 The Last Laugh
06 Silvertown Blues
07 El Macho
08 Prairie Wedding
09 Wanderlust
10 Speedway at Nazareth
11 Junkie Doll
12 Sands of Nevada
13 One More Matinee

cd2: Rarities

01. What It Is (extended version)
02. The Long Highway
03. Let's See You
04. Camerado
05. Do America
06. Red Staggerwing (early version)
07. Donkeytown (early version)
08. Pyroman (unreleased)
09. Bonafide (unreleased)
10. Two skinny kids (unreleased)
11. You are not even gone (unreleaded)
12. Don't mean a thing (unreleased)
13. Cold turkey (unreleased)

CD 3 & CD 4: STP Live Tour, a compilation (or a selection from) of the Toronto, Madrid, Bilbao, Newcastle and Glasgow concerts

CD 5: Bluray with the Madrid 2001 live show

CD 6: Bluray with the Atmos and 5.1 versions

This would had been a very complete (and also expensive) proper 25th anniversary of the STP record, don't you think?

I fully agree with your idea for CD 3 and 4. Not automatically one single show but a Best Of Live from the tour.

I long ago accepted that a rarities album would never be released. Early and unreleased versions of songs? That's unrealistic. And all the bonus tracks are in the box set, for example. There will be no reruns.

Same for me but my expectation about this kind of release are going way lower since the official 2025 aniversary version was revealed.

Even worse, what would previously had turned me completly nuts, as touching the Graal, today is received at best with a lame "ok, at last".

As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release this album, I re-listened to it in full and wrote up my thoughts on some of the songs:

I loved finding the extended version of What It Is on these forums - amazing to hear that extra verse after all these years!

Famously, the song is about Edinburgh :)
