I've gotten my hands on a beautiful Martin HD40MK this week.
Number 224 of 251.
She's in great shape and plays like a dream.

I've searched the internet for original promo material/adds or reviews (such as for the Strat on this first post), but I can't seem to find any.
I remembered an add featuring the photo I've added, but offcourse I could be wrong, it's been a couple of years since it was produced.

Does anyone here know of existence of such material? And willing to share with me?

Hi Vesper

Congrats, that's amazing!

I think I have the Martin catalogue that contained this model, I'll try to dig it out.

I just noticed the new pictures of the 1961 Strat from Guitarist magazine, May 2024.

You can compare a Fender Hot Rod Red MK Sig to the refinished 1961 Strat

MK Sig: https://www.oneverybootleg.nl/MK_guitars_fenderstratocasterMK2008_01.jpg

to me both colours look pretty much identical...

What feels strange, to my ears, is that the MK Sig strat sounds anything but a 60's strat.

It's good? Could be as a signature sound.
However, for a 60's Strat sound.... nah.
I played on 3 MK Sig strats and both sounded much more like a mess between 54 and 59 strats.
Both are great guitars. However, too bright for my taste.
I read about people who replaces the Texas Special pickups for the Pure Vintage 58/62 and it changed everything. However, MK likes the TS.

I had a Robert Cray sig strat and yes, it sounded much more like a 60's strat than the MK strat. Great guitar.

Who said he wanted it to sound like a 60s Strat? He tried all the pickups that Fender offered and decided he liked the Texas Specials.

Of course. As I mention.
"It's good? Could be as a signature sound."

His sig strat is based on a 62 Strat (maybe his 62). Wood choice, no skunk stripe, everything is based on a 60's strat.
He choose a 'unique' strat for him. Is his sound.
No problem with that. At all.
Again, is HIS sound.

However, for a 60's strat reference, isn't even close IMHO.
For my taste, I like the feel of the neck, weight... everything is great, except the pickups.
I like TS pickups. However, for my taste, didn't fit good as other pickups on that strat.

Mark likes it but I don't.
To me, his strat tone went weak after 2005 just because he adopted his sig Strat as his main strat.

His white 64' Strat sounds WAY better than the Sig.

Well if he had done as you suggested then I guess it would have just been a 62 reissue Strat so kind of pointless.

Yes. Turned that I was speaking about a different subject.
However, it is pointless indeed  ;)

cheers!

It is pretty hard to tell the difference....

Yes. It's a wonderful opportunity to compare colors under the same lighting.
