Pieta Brown to open for MK in U.S.
« on: January 12, 2010, 01:30:07 AM »

I noticed that the concert I'm attending on May 2nd in Washington, DC says "Mark Knopfler with Pieta Brown".  So I assume this is who will be opening for him in the U.S.  I haven't taken the time to listen to her music and I don't know anything about her but here is the link to her website if anyone is interested.

Thanks joanzimm for the info.  I haven't had a chance to check it yet. For me the ideal opening for MK would be a giant Video screen showing Mark from many previous years of tours. That would really warm the atmostphere and get me all fired up.  I only need MK to do his own opening act.

I always wondered why someone will need a support act, even it

I would love that, too!  We can never get too much of MK :P

Only if it is Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, David Gilmour etc for a support act.

Yeah, quite often the support acts are crap, but not always. At Steve Earle a ccouple of weeks ago I heard a support act called Joe Pug, who was truly amazing.

MK doesn't tend to have support acts in the UK and Europe, I wonder if it's something to do with the Union rules and stuff in the States? Also, I think quite often these acts or their record companies actually pay to get them on the tour, so I guess that's an incentive to PCM.

Could it also have sound mixing reasons? I mean the opportunity to use the time of the opener for making everything perfect in the mix could be great in terms of not having enough time for a "proper" soundcheck because of a tight schedule...

I just checked out her site.   Interesting lyrics, but hard to understand.   Not much to the guitar or tune.    Maybe I'm missing something.
"Hallelujah is for the damned/Forever is just a scam."    from one of the tracks.  This from the daughter of two preachers.    ;)

I would absolutely have no problems with that.

Excellent points everybody contributed here.  Does MK have any says in decision making for a supporting act?

I got to check Pieta on youtube.  She is not too bad. IMO  Curious what everybody thinks ?  I wonder  what criteria Mark uses to make the decision.

If that's the case, then I am curious about the performers he picks.  The last two have been young female guitarists & songwriters.

Maybe he looks for original talent, perhaps struggling newcomers.  I just listened to her, too, for the first time.  I thought she had a nice voice.  I wonder if MK will buy her a Martin guitar :o
