Pieta Brown
« on: May 01, 2010, 09:02:30 AM »
For those of us who have asked, "How does MK choose his opening act?" here is one answer:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-bialas/sweet-pieta-brown-gives-g_b_558019.html

In the nice article about Pieta comes this paragraph:
Cleveland, acknowledging she didn't "know Mark Knopfler from Adam ...," was determined to finally see her granddaughter perform in Denver as a warm-up to one of the city's most highly anticipated concerts of spring 2010. Brown's big break came as the result of the friendship between Mike Kappus, owner of The Rosebud Agency (which handles her booking), and Paul Crockford, Knopfler's manager.

Thanks Marie for the link.  Interesting reading.

In Temecula, she mentioned how she discovered DS and Mark.  So, she's a MK fan too.  I mentioned to her at the lobby when I bought the cd and she signed it that, she's so LUCKY to open the show for Mark.  She dutifully acknowledged it.  She 's a very sweet gal.

Last night at the Wash.DC concert, Pieta said that when she was younger, she came across a cassette tape somewhere (?), and she listened to it.  She was blown away by it, and kept listening to it over and over and over again.  It turns out it was a DS tape.

She mentioned that she has been so moved by the music of MK and the band on this tour, that 3 nights ago, she went to her dressing room and wrote a song about him (them).  She sang the song last night.  I was unable to understand any of the words though.  Maybe someone else who hears her soon will be able to understand them better than I could.

Joan, Pieta sang that song (dedicated to Mark) in LA and Denver, too, so it's not as recent as three days ago. She tells the same story each time, sort of like Mark's jokes when introducing the band. I couldn't understand most of the words either, but it didn't seem to actually be about Mark.

In Temecula, Pietaa mentioned about DS tape. I didn't recall anything about a song for Mark.  We'll see if she will bring it up again in Philly.

Joan,  thanks for the review for DC gig.  I'll see you in Philly.

Sweet, I don't remember her doing that song or speech at Temecula. When I heard it at LA, it seemed different from the night before.

Hey, allen,

thanks for posting the link from Youtube.  I took that vid. I have one more clip to upload. will do that later in the day.  I had the opportunity to sit right in front of Pieta and Bo during the performance.  Joan was next to me.  Isaac had to go looking for his cousin, so I kept the seat warm for him.

The second clip of the vid was when Pieta mentioned the song she wrote for Mark.  She looked at me and seemed very appreciative with the vid taping that I and others did actually enjoy her music.  I couldn't begin to tell you how rude some people were.  Some people behind me talked the entire time she was performing.  It's hard to be an opening act.  Some people just didn't care.

She's a very sweet gal.  Got her singed CD and photo in Temecula.

Check out my son channel on youtube where I uploaded these vids.
Thanks,

Love Expresso

What was that?? That sounded very weird in my opinion. Don't want to be rude of course, but if this is called singing I am not surprised about any people talking during her performance... And that guy is also very strange! But after all, I am only an European!  :lol The response to her music at this forum
was very positive over all, so I think I should not give too much on this, it is Youtube anyway...

And she's sitting in her Lusso, in the early morning sun.
