More surprises to come ?
« on: June 06, 2010, 07:10:38 PM »
I just bumpted into this post on Guy's forum, posted on June 3rd, that I had not noticed before.
In response to the question:

"Did these live recordings on Simfy are the live recordings news you have been talking about the last weeks? or were you referring to something else that we still do not know thanks!"

Guy answered, cryptically as usual:

"a bit of both".

Now, how should we interpret that ?? Is there still a slim chance to get a DVD after all ??

Heard many things about this DVD. That is was a video one. That it was a audio-only one. In any case, the choice of the concert was a bit strange, because STP, the song giving its name to both the album and the tour, was not played that night ! Then that had been scrapped, for no reason that could be clearly explained to me. Oh well. A 2001 DVD would have been great, though.
Still, they released one, the RLRR DVD - a very good one indeed, but the fact that it was not focused on mainstream hits led it to commercial failure. Sad.

Please correct me if I am wrong but...

Claude Nobs who is running the Montreux Festival does film every act playing there. He was probably the first person in the world to capture it in real HD at a time when there was absolutly no market for it (as far as of the early nineties).

So I expect that

1) Mark Knopfler performance from July 15th will be filmed [I have 99.9% faith that it will be]
2) some TV that usually cover the Jazz festival will broadcast it live or delayed, in totality or at least large excerpts  [I have 90 % faith that we will see something on TV].
3) in a distant future, an agreement between Mercury and the Montreux Jazz Festival can be reached to release it on DVD.

Yes, probably there are more surprises to come, maybe next show will be cut because the hotel bar close too early or because the plane catterer can get sushi at time  ;D

They could put on his new blue floral shirt too.  That was the main reason it wasn't released IMO! ;)

the move could be restored by George Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic.  They will cut the wind and make Mark's hair ok  ;D

Yes, and they could add Jabba the Hutt on backing vocals and replace all the guitars with mobile phones.

Better if they could include Princess Leia on backing vocals wearing that Jabba dress, if you know what I mean  ;D
