Ron Eve
« on: August 19, 2010, 12:27:02 AM »
anyone remember ron eve?
i wonder why Pete Saggers took over, did mk and Ron fight or something? or was it a simple but unexiting reason?
here is him commenting on Guy's facebook
Ron Eve: I do like that.
How about the thin cymbal? (I was chatting on FB last night with Terry Williams!)

--> so they are still in contact?
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

I have no idea. I think you mean Glenn Saggers, not Pete?

Google search and

"I used to be Mark Knopfler's guitar tech until '93 and later came out of 'roadie retirement' to do a Japan tour with Jeff a couple of years ago."

He was keyboard tech initially back in 1980 (it's his hand that held down the TOL intro after Mark had played it on the hammond organ). He became guitar tech 1990 onwards I guess because Pete Brewis had moved on.

An excerpt from "Guitar" magazine, 11th January, 1993 in which Ron Eve did an article about being Mark's tech:

"Mark is certainly a hard taskmaster and has high expectations and is perhaps a little intolerant to things going wrong."

"For example once he walked on, put his foot on the Ernie Ball volume pedal and the string mechanism broke.  Now I'd checked that before the show - I couldn't predict it - and he got a bit upset!"

Reading between the lines, maybe there was a bit of friction, or tension between them?    ???   Perhaps, because DS had come to an end, he just decided to retire!   :)

Yeah, I've got that mag, one of the first interviews I got after I got obsessed with DS. Lots of good info about MK and JI.

Ron also mentions an incident on the OES tour where the Pensa accidentally got caught on something just before MK went on stage and a string was out of tune when MK started playing, wonder if there's a recording of it?
