Hi all,

Just came across this nice bit of info about a small tour celebrating the classic album BIA!

What I love is the fact that Chris Whitten is on drum duties

they really seem very into it.
and never knew Chris whitten was australian, at least he sounds like one.
by the way, anyone know why mark often would introduce Danny with the whole "aspiring drummer" story to then end with "and now he AM one"??

Because after all those real master drummers like for example chad cromwell, he maybe has the feeling that we do not believe in a new drummer like
DC only because he is a nice chap and who has been well known as a percussionist over the years. I always preferred Chads drumming to be honest...
Even Chris Whitten had a very good style on the OES tour, much power, much energy and also very nice dry sound. But that is only my impression.

Chris Whitten (born 26 March 1959) is a British session drummer who provided drums for the hit singles "What I Am" by Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, "World Shut your Mouth" by Julian Cope and "The Whole of the Moon" by The Waterboys. Two critically acclaimed projects in the 1990s were Paul McCartney's Flowers In The Dirt album and Dire Straits final world tour from 1991-1992 to accompany their last studio album, On Every Street.

Whitten unusually has used a Noble & Cooley drum kit which are radically designed drums. The toms and snare are single-ply, steam-bent shells which give them (especially the snare) a distinctive sound. He has also recorded with such varied musicians as Tom Jones, Johnny Cash, The Pretenders, ABC and The The.

Whitten has been an active participant and Honorary VIP Member of the Drummer Cafe community forum since 2003.

Kind of a wierd concept, you go along to hear BiA played by people that have no association to BiA at all, except the drummer who played on a subsequent tour? I think Phil Emmanuel is Tommy Emmanuel's brother isn't he?

Whatever happened to Chris Whitten anyway? Seems he was an in demand session drummer until OES then just disappeared.

While reading this I just asked myself : could the MFN solo drum actualy being edited out of the OTN release because of credits/royalties claim for it?

Eh, no, that comment should be taken in the context of the wider thread about musicians being paid for compositions. Some people were saying that all music should be free, he's saying that a lot of people like him make a small living out of composing, even though a small few like MK make millions.

He is so right about Macca turning a soundcheck into a real mini concert in front of a small audience*. AND during soundcheck you can hear much stuff that won't be played during the actual concert.

Whereas for Mark, even the "credited all access VIPs" are politely asked to got out of the room when time come to soundcheck.
