My dad also has a multimillion pound recording studio that he let me use to record my debut album.

The studio has it own manager that is not MK.

And this is a buissness tool so I am not sure that Ben or even Mark can use it for free - I think that legaly they have to pay fees to the studio otherwise this would be misuse of company assets.

A chap called David Stewart is the studio manager at British Grove and all bookings go through him as in any other commercial facility. Mark is kept informed of who wishes to use the studio. In razorlight's case, Chris Thomas their producer expressed a desire to use this wonderful studio. As well as being a nice chap, Chris is the type of producer who really appreciates what is a unique combination of classic analog and ultra high-end digital gear.

But still, I find it very hard to believe that a basically unknown band such as The Rocket Dolls, or even someone like John Illsley would be paying full rates to record at what is acknowledged to be one of the best studios in the world.

In general, though, I'm sure that BG, being one of the best studios in the world, is suitable for every instrument to be recorded there, not just drums!  :)

Yeah, it's just that drums are one of the most instruments to record. If you get a good drum recording then it's easy to do guitars at a lesser studio or even at home with Pod and suchlike.

Yes, as a (very) amateur drummer, I know how difficult is to record drums, there are a lot of items to mic, and then be careful because the mic that record the hihat could also receive sounds from the snare, and you don

I've got to say it is so not my sort of music either. I wonder what Marks thinks of his son playing this sort of music. I know I wouldn't be best pleased but then again each to their own I suppose.

Ben's only 23 years old, so there's lots of time for his taste to change into something else.  Maybe Mark is playing the waiting game and hoping......  ;)

I'm sure he's delighted. No way would he want his son to be putting out some lame imitation of Dire Straits. Far better to go for something completely different so that is son doesn't have to suffer comparisons.

I'm quite certain he's a very proud dad and the last thing he would want is a copy of DS.   What I meant is that people's taste and style can change many times in life and I don't expect Ben will be making the same type of music for the rest of his musical career.  His music will mature into something else eventually.  Just look at MK himself, he has changed direction a number of times.   I think MK will be watching Ben and supporting him, as any parent would, as he makes his way in the music world.
