And I do know that Olivier didn't write "Hamlet" and it may not have been the best analogy but I think you got the point..

Yeah, I did, I was just being pedantic (That's what I do best  ;D)

Best of luck, Jack. Nice to hear Pick is out and about. Except from three videos on YouTube that I posted on here today, I don't know his drumming apart from the first four DS records. What a drummer. I know you were part of DS during their commercial peak, but in my opinion they never beat the first two albums, much thanks to Pick. Here's a request to you: How about a bacstage Six Blade Knife jam with Pick? Skyrocketing YouTube views!

Six Blade Knife is a great tune. Too bad that it was short lived performance during the 85 tour.

Out of curiosity, do you remember if there was any extra material recorded during the BIA session as no "b-side only" song was published?

Do I remember right that Jack had a nice green Schecter strat which had rosewood type of neck without dots?

Yes, you do (ouch that was a big picture ... from Jack's website, www.jacksonni.com, http://www.jacksonni.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/DSC_4961-Edit.jpg)

Thanks Jackal!

Another one. Hal Lindes played blue Schecter strat in Dire Straits. I believe that it was Mark

Always nice to hear from you Jack. Pick was most definitely my favourite DS drummer, no coincidence that he was also invited by Dylan to play on Slow Train Coming. Very intersting parts, always.

Oh yeah, ride across the river was played very well by jack. Also, jack, how "unrehearsed" was the long part played during tunnel of love in the sept. oct. 85 shows? Where yo guys used to go "reggae" and played bits of riders on the storm and stuff?

Great question.  I listened to Tunnel Of Love from Seattle 20.09.85 in full yesterday, and I had the volume turned up loud!  It was sublime. ;D

Hey all! The internet connection here in Italy is a bit iffy & just have a few minutes before running out to dinner...but wanted to drop in for quick update. Had the first rehearsal with Pick today...and I'm still buzzing from the experience!! THIS is why I do this from time to time. Pick is a great musician and while I love Terry Williams as a mate & he was a great drummer, it was absolutely fantastic to play the songs from the early albums with Pick today. His feel is so incredible and I found myself smiling from ear to ear..thinking YES THIS is how these songs are supposed to feel & be played. While the band played it's ass off on the BIA tour, so much of the subtlety got pounded out of them as DS got to stadium gigs. Today was w/out Phil & Mel but we ran through "Sultans" (was sublime - all the amazing little accents were there at last!!), "Expresso Love" "Six Blade Knife" "Wild West End" (sorry I did get to play a solo at the end!!) & "Tunnel of Love". I'm still smiling!!! Cured my jetlag, that's for sure!!!

If I had any qualms about doing this type of gig again - getting the chance to play these tunes with Pick - a huge part of the early DS sound - laid it all to rest...and honestly, if the gig were to be cancelled - I'd have gotten all I could have wanted out it!!

Gotta run but will try to drop back again from the hotel in Ferrarra later this week.

Be well

Jack, thank you for your posts, quite a thrill to read them. I am really curious what is your favorite music nowadays. New and old. And how about your favorite guitarists. And any news about the book? I'd really like to read for your days before Dire straits. Did you actually played with Carlos Alomar?
A million questions to ask, hope you don't mind. Keep up the good work.
Come on, it is not funny anymore.
