Much as I would like more songs, it feels like ODR the album, as a strong record, would be a good one to go out on. And ODR, song, would be a fitting final song (not including all the bonus stuff).

This is true, though to be fair you could say the same for several of the solo albums. Matchstick Man, for instance, would also be an appropriate track to go out on given its autobiographical nature. As I said, we don’t really know the situation for sure. Let’s wait and see what does - or doesn’t - happen.

I'm glad DTRW isn't MK's last album, as it's a bit of a stinker, relatively speaking.

I hope One Deep River is not the final album for many reasons, but mainly because I just don't think it was that good an album, by Mark's high standards anyway!!
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

I really think that's a red herring.

I don't see any problem if MK would quietly retire.
No interviews, no nothing... just stop.
He worked hard and achieve everything that he wanted in life.
In music, he played with his heroes, sold millions of records, is considerer one of the world's most influencial guitar players, his music has played on the moon and above all that, there is a dinossaur with his name, LOL.

I agree with Dusty that ODR is a strong album with a 'goodbye' vibe.
Is not good as STP, SL or Privateering but is good in terms on how MK music became. IMO

I think that most of us complain is about how better could be MK appearances. I do not know if Mark played on some NewCastle's events on their stadium (like Sam Felder did). He never brought DS together again (unless when he played a full set on some Land Rover private event) and many other things.

Many of us said that if MK would reunite the old gang together, his solo work would be buried. So we are waiting for some kind of miracle since his concerts got boring at some place around 2008 or so. Wich is normal.

I don't believe he would keep saying he will go on recording being aware that he can't / won't.

I think he's trusful on that matter.

Fred 71:
Guy, is it true? No live show in 2001 to celebrate the anniversary of the release of Sailing to Philadelphia? If so, it makes no sense.

Guy:

I know what you mean. Many things make no sense if we are not fully aware of the facts.

I wonder what the facts are  :think

Maybe the fact is there are no tapes of sufficient quality.  We know of only radio shows and those recorded for the DVD.  The Madrid show can be discarded thanks to the loud audience and the others will be scrapped, if we know the Knopfler archive by now.

It is highly unlikely that they have been scrapped. They will be in the archives somewhere. It’s a question of whether the label sees it as commercially viable to have Mark’s solo tour recordings mixed and released. On the other hand, it’s possible that they are holding live recordings back for a future live box set release of some form…hopefully.

2 months ago Mark confirmed in a Le Parisien interview that there will be a new album, yet there's people here saying that ODR is his final album.
