The defintion of "Dire Straits Rock-n-Roll-Orchestra" should be seen ironically in case of Mark´s humor. OK Lady Writer is a much shorter and uptempo-song, possibly in the tradition of the 1960s beat-songs.
His guitarplay is close to the olde The Shadows-sound of the Sixties. I´m of the opinion that Marks musically heroes are The Shadows, especially Hank Marvin. Lady writer is partially a little bit of "Shadows-like". 

This point of view is so good! I think he introduces this song because of the striking beat that the song has, it's a kind of Sultans Of Swing more Pop, since it's shorter.

I can recall, that Mark mentioned some musical heroes in an older interview. He named: Hank Marvin of The Shadows, Elvis Presley, Lonnie Donegan and J.J. Cale. If you have also some old recordings by that mentioned artists, Mark´s musical background is clear. I think he said the following: " I started with a couple of old Lonnie Donegan records.." I have heard it on an US-Radioshow called Up Close produced by Dan Neer. I have it as a 2-CD-Set.
