I'm not all that tech savvy, but from my experience the better sounding audio recordings that I have are Flac/wav files. They just seem to have so much more depth and "fill in" sounds going on, if you get my meaning. You hear something different every time you play the track. Mp3's and similar sound muddled/muffled to me. Mind you some "poorly" recorded Flac files can also sound like that.
Maybe Dan or others who have more knowledge of sound waves etc may be able to explain it better?
I remember seeing those charts of sound waves from recordings. I think the wider the wave the better the sound - generally?
