Really strange how they gave a higher rate as our eventrate than we can book online at their site or at booking.com

In the Netherlands if you ask for an eventrate you get some proper rate:
Last time I spent a night in The Hague. Very nice 4star-hotel, around the corner of the congrescentre.
Normal rate at that hotel:

If some of you are still looking for reasonable accommodation, you may try travelodge: http://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/340/London-Central-City-Road-prev-Moorgate-hotel

You still get rooms for 29,95, breakfast excluded. But don't expect any luxury. Old Street to Royal Albert Hall is a journey of approximately 40 minutes by tube.
And she's sitting in her Lusso, in the early morning sun.

Hi Justme, earlier we discussed the nonrefundable booking at Travelodge. It's not in a good financial position, so I didn't dare however normally  I always stay there. Marylbone I went in a few times. Travelodge is really ok. You have a bed and shower and toilet and it's clean, so all you need. But be careful with nonrefundable bookings nowadays

40 mins in The Underground is a long way away and at that distance with their pricing scheme is probably in a different "zone."  Locals will know more about this than me, but from my visits to London this means you'll not be able to use things like Oyster Cards and travel becomes expensive.

Looks like a real long travel...

There are plenty of decent B&B in the Victoria/Pinlico, Russell Square or even around Kensington with decent prices like to travel so long...

I will try to search a B&B in the same underground line that the RAH, South Kensington, so the ride will be faster, or at least easier.

Hotels I usually stay in have been on Cromwell Road (Copthorne Tara this time).  Radisson Vanderbilt and Premier Inn are the two I've tried before, Radisson being the better but a little more expensive.  I don't think there is that much in it though so it's worth checking it out.

From these you can easily walk to/from the RAH.  They are also within walking distance to Knightsbridge area with Harrods etc.

Thanks for the input so far. As I understand, travelodge will withdraw the money the moment you check-in. So this should be safe. I cannot imagine, that travelodge will go bust. Perhaps there is a bit too big to fail in it?!

It's situated in TFL Zone 1, so even with a daily travelcard you are safe.

Travelodge??!! Cheap and nasty me thinks!

We are staying for two nights at the Kensington Premier inn (Near Earls Court tube station) and a mere 20 mins walk to the RAH. A few pounds more than travelodge but you get a decent nights sleep with breakfast a few pounds extra in the morning....
