So if you feel offended by my earlier post, I apologize. But I give reason to think that El Macho himself could feel offended when he opens a new thread  and the first post on it is "yawn"...

So did you know this Buffet news already for years and therefore "yawn", or do you think Buffets music is "yawn" or is the news itself just "yawn"?

LE

I'm not comfortable with english too, and yawn is a word I don't understand !

I'm not the right man to explain english language, but if I correctly understand, I would say that "yawn" ("bailler" "baillement" in french) would mean :
"not interesting", "boring", "sigh"..... ::)

as for the song's lyrics, it looks like shangi-la indeed.
I love this song.
I already loved the 2006 version with Duncan's violin and Matt's piano, but the 2013 version with Nigel's sax is beautiful too.
since few days, I'm into 2005 stuff, and I'd say that 2005 versions are a bit too rough, the guitar tone is too much drived for this song IMHO.
2006 and 2013 tones are way better, more etheral, fit more to songs lyrics  I think.

LE, good song I like it  :thumbsup

100% agree with Foma

we are not all comfortable with english language, so for some of us it's easier to talk about chords than lyrics.

Sorry if it seems not "usefull", but I understand that there are many guitar freaks here, so I think that some could be interested.

Finally, if we can't discuss about guitar, chords, and so on on a Mark Knopfler forum, well, I don't know where we can...

Ok I go back to Ingo's one...

You can "discuss" chords with me anytime ,as you know.........using the DM7 more often lately  ;D..........I am sorry :-X

from a mail I receive from knopfler.com for who wanna read (no chords involved  :wave )

Jimmy does a hell of a good "Southern Cross" by Steven Stills..  A very erudite business man too.  Great entertainer.

Yes and it's as beautiful as Ticket to Heaven, too.

Melody reminds me of Ticket to Heaven

yes agree.

ticket to heaven's melody + our shangri-la's tone and arrangement

nothing really exciting IMHO, altough I love  the song our shnagri-la (but not really ticket to heaven)

I think it's not bad at all, middle of the road fare.

I also thought JB was going to start singing OSL because the lyrics are the same at the very start!
"I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order."

The source who got me the song, told me: 'Here's two songs that MK is on that you might not have'
Oldest surfer on the beach was one of them, but the other song was also on the JB album.
It's called 'Rue de la Guitare'.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Just listened 'Rue de la Guitare'. Looks like MK played acoustic guitar solo on it. Very good solo though, better than the whole 'Oldest surfer on the beach' song :D
