Favorite song(s) of the Privateering Tour
« on: July 30, 2013, 01:37:19 AM »
As I reflect on the concerts I attended and listen to the sticks, I have been thinking about my favorite songs this tour. For me, it is a tie between the Father and Son/Hillfarmer medley (how clever was the person who thought to put those two songs together!) and the beautiful and haunting Haul Away. Would love to hear what everyone else's favorites were.

Not ready to decide, but I think Farber and Son/Hill farmers blues is also my favoriete. Maybe you can Ad a poll. All songs played are in another toreador, so you can use them for a poll

My first vote goes to a very old song: Telegraph ! Played the way i love it...
I was actually bored with Haul Away (sorry) but delighted with DOTDS... So beautiful. Too bad it was played only 4 times...
KOG with Ruth was another highlight. Only 16 times... Can't understand.
Paraguay was a lovely surprise, I adore this song.
IDUAD was great, not as much as in 2006 but still.
I totally agree with FAS/HFB.
Going Home with sax was fab !
Speedway was really great.
Would love to rate YTC, this should be #1, but playing it only 3 times is a disgrace...
I came to like the song Privateering after a  initial "bore" feeling.
I even come to like CBC and IUTC live.
WII was quite nice too.
MT was a bit too long but I liked the "fairy tale" ending.

Only thing is...

Death to Sonny !!!!!

My 2 favorites are "  Diamond" and " Paraguay"  They both happen to be one of my favorites from the albums also.  I've heard every other song from previous tours, but never " Diamond" and " Paraguay" . So they are gems for me.

I personnaly love Song For Sonny Liston, the middle half improvised solo gets better and better every tour !
My other favorites : KOG, YTC but why didn't they get played more often ?
Gator blood evolved during the tour and the latest versions are really great !
Speedway and HFB are always among my favourites !
I get bored with WII, Marbletown, RAJ, SOS (yes, played a few times is OK for me), TR (if only he could play another DS tune instead, like PI or TOL...) and SFA (even my wife who loves DS and not so much MK solo thinks it's the weakest song of the set).
They got a name for people like you, yeh they do
And they got a name for people like me too

Actually I agree with the middle half improvised solo for SFSL, but I just hate the "song" as a whole...
Gator Blood is ok, but not my favourite, I'm not moved by it.
Getting bored with TR ??? this is utter blasphemy ! :p although, should it be replaced with TOL (not PI), I will forgive the replacement wholeheartily.
Agree with RAJ and SFA, tired of them.
WII could be great but live it is always lacking something, nothing could be the studio version so far. And the flute does not help...

I agree on nearly everything here herlock. As always........ ;)
I still don't feel that WII works played live. The album version is much better. More speedy and more guitar based. Would like another opener.
My favorite song on this tour is Father And Son/ Hillfarmers Blues  :clap
The weakest song must be SFA, Played so many nights. Why ?  :disbelief
I'm one of those who think that Sultans should be played every night. Really missed that song at both my shows  ;D
Submariner......my fave on the album....... only played few times.........should have been there from day one...........I like the live version pretty much too  :thumbsup

I'm not the right person to choose fav songs of this tour, as I didn't attend any show, haven't got any stick yet, and I can't say I have listened enough stuff on YT, but all I can say is I agree about WII. the studio version is THE version.

some TR end solos are great.

And I love band introduction on postcards with each instrument coming in after each other (reverse of Portobello Belle 83, when each instrument was left out after each musician introduction), but I'm listening to 2007 stuff last days, and Postcards was fabulous druing KTGC promo tour, beacuse no flute and more guitar based, with some licks never heard again after these showcases.

Yes, too much flute in many of the songs now. Sometimes I miss the good old guitar based Mark Knopfler  :-X

Too much flute and cittern !
I listened to TR Lyon 2005 this morning...wooowww.... wonderful !
About cittern : a MK guitar solo would have been more appropriated in 5.15 than John's cittern, or is it Ravi Shankar's ghost ?  ;D

I wish I could say without hesitation Yon Two Crows or Redbud Tree ...

So, same as usual for me :
#1 Marbletown  (still my special although the 2013 extension kills the tempo. )
#2 Telegraph road
#3 Hill Framer's blues (only HFB , no F&S please)

Postcards was a good core song, fresh and full of life.

Back to Tupelo / KOG / YTC / BIA : not enough played to be rated as favorite song of the tour.
