Dire straits Lyon'92 setlists ?
« on: August 03, 2013, 10:39:08 AM »
21 years ago, I attented my first MK concert ever in Lyon (La Halle Tony Garnier).
In an attempt to recall what I listened to at the time, I encountered two problems:

1/This may sound very silly, but I can't remember which night Of the two (April 20th or 21st) I attended ! There were Monday and Tuesday during Easter holidays, so I just can't remember !

2/You obviously can't help me with 1/ but maybe you could with this: to make things even more complicated for me, the setlist of April 21st is widely available on the net (only 13 songs, so Solid Rock, no Wild Theme and no rare song, which I find strange by the way), but there is nothing to be found about April 20th !! The 21st is a TOL concert, so I think the 20st should logically be a TR concert, but I have no proof or this. I'm so useless that I can't tell whether I heard TOL or TR ! The idea that I listened once in my life to TOL would both please me and make me angry with myself since I can't even remember !
So, if somebody would help me with posting both confirmed setlists here, I would be soooo grateful....

Cheers

I know what you mean Herlock - I always feel a certain je ne sais quoi when I think about the concert where I heard TOL in '91.  I hope this works out the way you want it.

Look at this:

Thanks, but as I said the 21st setlist is well known (although I would like it to be confirmed as it is strangely short), whereas the 20th is nowhere to be found - this is the one I'm looking for !

Hi herlock,
what a coincidence! I sent my tickets to Jeroen this week to complete his pages, and there is my (also) first MK concert :

http://www.oneverybootleg.nl/ticket_20_04_1992.jpg

1) I obviously attended the 20/04/1992

2)  I am 1000% sure it was TR, because I remember very well have been surprised with the sax solo (I was too far, I could not even see what Mark had guitar in his hands )

for the rest of the setlist, It was likely the same as 21th, so indeed no Wild theme and no solid rock (but I can't confirm this because I don't remember)

hope it helps  :)

JF - do you remember if:
1/YLT was played ? It was played the next day but it was new at the time, so maybe not on the 20th...
2/If any "rare" songs (PONO, IH, WICTY, YAYF, FTB,...) was played ?
Cheers

And last: I think we can be safe to say that BIA was played ? I thin I remember it... I say that because already at this time Mark sometimes "forgot" to play BIA !!

I tried to compil what I can remember.

This gig gaved me mixed feelings, and my memory is maybe not 100% accurate.

Even to know exactly the songs I heard in 2010, I have to verify on Jeroen

Thanks so much JF or sharing your experience ! I had a similar one...:)
Would be astonishing if I could say I heard Portobello Belle !! Although I do not know for sure I attended 20th and not 21st there is a stronger possibility, my brother thinks he remembers TR and not TOL...
I said YLT was new because although it was played at the beginning of the tour it was quite rare, until the European leg where it became systematic...
Please, please, others, help us to remember !
Cheers

I am not from Lyon.

I did attend Paris april 25th 92* and Werchter about a month later.

At the time I did have heard the Straits To the Poind bootleg and you can't imagine my deception when I realised they had dropped PONO - triple f... word!

I remember that during the first half of the show i had feeling that the band was in sort of autoplay but was really impressed by TR and it was until that mark snas g the first verse that I did put the name on "Solid Rock"*. And it was all - end of show.

Werchter, was same basic setlist with When It Comes To You played instead of Iron Hand. And was nuts during SOS.

* OEB site omit SR and says that the recording is complete concert but I am 100 % affirmative that SR and IH were both  played the night I attended
It was a Saturday evening so this the 25 april show ( I still have the ticket ... somewhere ).
