yes it sounds great.

reagarding the pic, he uses a LP, and the tone confirms this. I'd guess neck PU

I think the guitar is straight into the amp, no pedal. The gain comes from the amp, surely a tube one.

It could be both a fender-open-back-style amp (fender, music man... ) or a marshal-stack-type one (marshall, reinhardt...)

maybe you can ask him on YT ?

Thanks JF. Yes, I thought that his playing complimented the original parts, without ever intruding on Mark's playing. Always loved Mark's strumming all the way through this song (think he played all string parts from memory?). Find it very atmospheric. Can imagine myself nursing the beer up in the corner.

agree. I love this song. BTW my modest "composition" Grand espaces has almost the same chord progression as the verse.
my chords are : D C G D  D Am Em D
Mark's chords are : D C Em G D

And I can swear that I did it unintentionally. It's only after listen the song again that I spotted the ressemblance.

of course it's not the same tempo, the same rhythm, but some lines in the melody match sometimes.

as for the different parts, Mark is playing 3 parts, but Richard is playing an additional part. Not sur if it's bouzouki or something else. sorry, can't resist promoting my work on Ingo's site  ;) :
