As for Colouche's humour, it is lost on me, I'm afraid. It seems more a statement of the obvious but I guess I'm missing the point.

Out of context this is not funny at all, but in Coluche's mouth it definitively was.

Yes of course it's not funny out of context, and it wasn't pertinent to post it here, but i couldn't resist   :smack

Don't underestimate the British humour, JF! After all many such obvious statements were made funny by Monty Pythons and Fry & Laurie, amongst others!
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

I never have the intention to underestimate the British humour,
I am found of the monty pythons  :)
life of Brian is one of my fav movies, and I remember watching flying circus every day in early 90ies when it was re-broadcatsed on the Arte TV channel

in another genre, I also love woody allen's humour

Like that one Dusty. :thumbsup

Being serious, I do love the original Blake Edwards Pink Panther films with Peter Sellars and Herbert Lom.  Indeed Lom is one of my favourite actors.  So underrated.

I do, of course, accept the many points made here - context is important to find something funny, the problems of translation, cultural differences and so on. Thank you, jf, for providing a bit of background. My French is pretty basic, I'm afraid. I once bought "Jacques Brel - Une Vie" by Olivier Todd and it has been struggle, as I can only manage it in fits and starts.

Another nice item on Ebay;

Well this time he actually forgot to put black rectangle on award owner's name, so we can acknowledge it's Ed Bicknell's figurine.
