The song Beryl pretty much got SAME attention as a whole album itself. Amazing thing, isn't it?

It's kind of annoying me at the moment;  I love the melody but wish he'd spent more time on the lyrics.  There's only enough lyrics in here for one verse never mind an entire song!  Mark can write so much better, he just hasn't don himself justice here.

I really think he wanted to keep it very simple here on purpose

He exceeded himself.

Yes, it is like he said in the video interview - "I leave it there" - it is a hint, a signal to point his finger to the scandal that he detected. Not more, not less. Plus as I read at the Huffington interview she herself had this short kind of writing style, so it fits.

I have a fear that Beryl will be played as an alibi, an excuse, for not to playing SOS on the coming tour.

God I hope I am wrong.

Sounds most likely to me. But I'm not sure that would be a bad thing.  ::)

I'm looking forward to hearing it, even if it's instead of SOS.   MK was getting tired of Sultans, so wasn't playing it as it used to be played.  This will be something he's more interested in at the moment and, hopefully, he will have his heart in it more than SOS.   ;)

So there are actually those who would give up SOS to hear Beryl instead. Fascinating  :)

I would be very happy to hear Sultans again, but only if MK was happy playing it again.  Maybe he could alternate it with Beryl some nights, then he would please more people.   :)

Well, you have to agree that if there are three strikes on the hi hat - right after R&J - most people will inhale for a second and lightly squeeze their buttocks in anticipation to cheer, jump up and/or down or whatever.... and then Beryl comes on...

that said dribble will cause a lot of emotions and make people angry and upset.

What about Beryl with the Sultans solo tacked onto the end?  ;)

Seriously though, he couldn't really get away with playing both since they sound so similar.  Don't you think?

Having heard the 'Live' version which was played in Germany and although it was not great for MK's usual high standards I'm sure he will 'let rip' with some kind of lead solo, there is certainly room for one...

I think as any other song, it will evolve on tour. Improved solos included... I see one of two options, opening with this song, then rolling into What It Is, or, it replaces Sultans...

I think that Beryl will replace What it is, played in all tours, in a similar set I hope:

Laughs
Beryl (sure (hope) will have a long outro solo)
Sailing
Hill
Broken or basil
Romeo
Sultans

Maybe a medley? (although it is in Gminor)

" and Harry doesn't mind if Beryl gets a booker medal..."
