I recall an article, or post somwhere,  that TOL was his fathers favorite song. When his father died some time ago, MK lost interest in playing that particular song, and has never played it since.
If it is true that this was the reason for not playing that song anymore, it would be irrelevant asking for it, even maybe a bit disrespectful to him.
If it is true of course. I dont remember where it was written.
Cheers Peter

Once you sell some of your principles, the rest depend on what's your situation before a big offerig of money... if his accountants run away to Paraguayyyyyyy, with all his money, boy, he will play Tunnel of love and whatever is needed!

Let's start worldwide donations to pay out our own AMIT show with the songs we want to hear

But seriously? I'm in :)

No way I will be in. We would never agree on what he should play!

It was GF´s forum, at least one post there from a peter de mooij:
Hi Doc, im not sure if it was mentioned here or that I read it somewhere else but is it true that mark doesn't want to play tunnel of love anymore because it was his late father's favourite song? i was listening to an old '91 bootleg version of TOL and alltough i respect marks wishes (off course) i do think its a marvellous epic song ! i hope someday mark will start playing it again! if not I'll allways have beautiful recordings to listen to..

GF Answer: I doubt it.

Cheers Peter

I'm not in because I would feel a little embarrassed explaining to my wife why we no longer have a home  ;D

I'm totally IN for this :thumbsup. There are enough fans to make this a reality. Question is how much do we need to raise to pay for one show? And not only we will argue about what songs to play but also Where to play? ???

I really don't get the logic of these corporate gigs, it undermines MKs stance under the banner of creativity that he doesn't play Straits tunes to the masses any more.

So he can do a gig for private gain playing DS numbers but a charity event on a big scale is out of the question. Doesn't add up to me.

I could only manage to attend my first ever DS gig only in 1992 and then did this very silly thing : a attended another gig just one month after the first one. Alas both night were TR performance.

So, why the people that weren't lucky to hear TOL in the Straits days should be punished?

Since I follow Mark I have heard TR and RJ over 50 times.

Maybe he's just waiting that I don't attend his shows anymore  :think

They played sultans, walk of life, so far away and Romeo.

And two more songs: Your Latest Trick and Local Hero.

I also attented many MK shows, and heard TR many times and had to wait until Alan Clark and Chris White formed The Straits to listen Tunnel Of Love live...

Also during the MK and friends concerts, MK played Your Latest Trick, that I never heard live, except the day I attended the concert, that day he choosed Baloney Again instead, that I've heard too many times already... The Straits played also Your Latest Tricks for me.

Ironic that The Straits amended my expectations when I attend a MK concert, but they playing that songs were better than MK not playing them.
You might get lucky, now and then

Ironic indeed.  Most of us moan about them, or some aspect of them, but at the end of the day they play music that pleases the majority of the crowd first and foremost and not music that that pleases themselves.  :think :think :think
