A 'new' acoustic guitar for concerts. Will he revive Private Investigations? ;D

Sorry to to crush your hopes here - but he played PI with a nylon string / classical guitar. This is a steel string.

According to Guy, "Playtime Deluxe" is not part of the new record...

So... another unreleased song, or maybe a bonus track?

I think "Playtime Deluxe" won't be released as it is actually a one off song written for the Wyman gig using someone else music.
And you know Mark NEVER EVER record cover song on his albums.

Privateering being the sole or almost sole exception.

The latter two were soundtracks so don't really count IMO.  As for the other two, well I must admit that it blemished his record (no pun intended) for me.  He could have left these silly songs out completely.

Very much agree. Miss You Blues is by far the weakest song on Privateering. Why cover other people's work if your own is so much better? Doesn't make sense. I don't mind such songs as b-sides (like Oklahoma Ponies), but even that is strange, as he uses hides such fantastic tracks as Follow the Ribbon among the bonus tracks. Ah, the ways of the Lord, they're often dark ...

Miss you blues is, for me, the most boring song not from Privateering but all MK discography. I can understand why he even bothered to record it with the music of an old traditional song...

I quite like some of those copycat songs but I agree that for someone who's such a prolific and compulsive songwriter it makes no sense to put one of your songs aside in order to make room for someone else's.

Guys - I stared this thread nearly two years ago! Phew - two years! This was when Guy announced they were heading back into the studio. Two years is a long time without new stuff apart from Playtime Deluxe but hey-ho! I note that the thread has over 160k hits - don't know if this is a record or not but certainly shows the interest out there in MK / GF. With the new stuff due, announcements to me made, time me thinks to close off this particular thread. Neville now living in Vietnam!
