Eddie... SRV is another dimension. In a Jimi Hendrix level.

Funnily he opened for Dire Straits in 1985 when he was starting.
The ticket shows in the OES your book. Was the (I believe) first Toronto show. I got the recording.

"I found this and based on what I heard I don't think he mastered it. Compared to his regular guitar playing it's pretty unimpressive. Still pretty good to me though"

I'm far from comparisons, but Gator Blood by Mark Knopfler is definitely better :)

Compare gator blood with anything from Srv and saying gator blood is better... Crucifixion is too soft punishment.

However, the kind of songs he does nowadays doesn't require any quality slide guitar... So he doesn't need to be any better. If any of the songs would require truly quality slide, he would call someone else for sure. He knows what he can do and what he can't.

SRV was an alien but playing slide guitar, at least based on the two songs I heard, he was pretty average.

Regarding Hendrix, extremely overrated as a guitarist imho.

Stevie Ray Vaughan is a great musician, no one has doubts, but I prefer a melody in the music that touches me. I do not know exactly Stevie Ray Vaughn's records, I'm listening to different music, but Stevie Ray Vaughan has not touched me yet

Hendrix was not only a great-amazing-fabulous guitarist, he was also an oustanding song-writer, he revolutionized studio recording methods, and excatly as DS1984 said, he wrote the History.
in modern music history, you have Elvis, Berry, Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Hendrix.
his influences are at the same level.
I am a DS/MK fan, but talking about Hendrix, it's just another planet (and I am a fan too)

I like a famous journalist quote :" Jimi played the blues from the delata, but this delta was on mars"

I love SRV, but I don't think he is on Jimi's level
