Thomas Dolby and Don Grosh
« on: June 10, 2009, 11:05:13 AM »
Two bits of news which are related, firstly MK has played on a track on Thomas Dolby's new album.

Thomas Dolby actually went on the official MK forum a while back trying to get in contact with MK. I thought it was pretty funny that a fairly well known musician would have to resort to such channels, but it obviously worked.

Here's his original post on the forum:

http://www.markknopfler.com/forums/thread/8665.aspx

And here's his cool blog entry about recording at British Grove:

http://blog.thomasdolby.com/2009/03/a-wish-comes-true/

In it he mentions that MK used a Don Grosh guitar. I've never heard of MK using these before so i asked GF and he confirmed that it is used a lot on the new album, so I guess we'll be seeing it on th enext tour.

I did a bit of Googling and somebody from Don Grosh confirmed that MK has been recording with one of their Electrajet models.

They seem to come with lots of different options, but it will be something like this:

Cool that MK always uses new amps and guitars and doesn't just stick to the same stuff all the time.

I remember reading that thread on MarkKnopfler.com some time ago and feeling a bit sceptical as to whether he was genuine or not.  I am so pleased that it worked out well for him!   :)

SOUNDS GREAT.!
Can't wait to hear the track.
Guitar sounds like something between a strat & a Les Paul apparently, so should be right up my street. :)

Hi,
in his March2009 entry of his GetLucky Diary Guy has a picture of some of the guitars used, and there is the Grosh guitar mentioned. Not quite sure
which one it is because Guy somehow messes up the "from L to R" thing... or is it me?? Just thought it could be interesting for you, Dusty!

I looked around and I don't see a release date.
But a spoonful of forgiveness
Goes a long, long way
And we all should do our best
To get along

Thanks, somehow I missed this before.

The Don Grosh is the white guitar, reminds me a bit of the strat used to play The Bug on the OES tour.
