I had to spend more than a month without a guitar but just enjoyed an evening with a viewer in Istanbul who let me play some of his amazing guitars, including this rare and beautiful Gibson. That's certainly the best guitar that I ever played!

Just recorded a short instrumental piece Mark wrote as a part of the Metroland soundtrack. It's short and simple, and beautiful. I tried to record it with all the equipment I currently have: only a Squier Mini Strat and Mustang Micro Amp, my favorite combination. Metroland has, in my opinion, some of the most beautiful melodies written by MK for a film score, I specially love this one and I think it's a pity that when playing live he let the sax and piano play the melody and he didn't played a single note. In the record is MK who plays it but if I remember well, during the film you can listen that song being played by the piano, which is not in the record!

Lots of good tips and insights, Pavel. I've been in a "Knopfler mood" lately and have played along to a lot of DS tunes. It strikes me how "economical" Mark's playing is. Most of his licks and runs happen around chords and "boxes" and everything feels very natural. You don't have to master weird and complicated things that people like Allan Holdsworth or Tommy Emmanuel play to figure out Mark's style. The technical part is fairly simple. It's more about getting the feel of it, particularly note choices / phrasing and dynamics.

I recreated one of my favourite moments in whole Mark Knopfler's career — Sailing To Philadelphia Solo, played live on 09.09.09 in London. Can't even describe how beautiful this version is, and the solo, and the band, everything's simply perfect. Check it out. This time, my mistake was not in the playing, but some video glitch slipped through towards the end. You simply can't live without mistakes! I wanted to use this first take simply because of the bird that came flying on one of the most impressive bits in the solo. Tab, as always, is in the description in multiple formats. Lesson pending.
