MK and Tommy Emmanuel
« on: April 20, 2017, 07:04:13 pm »
Tommy just posted this on Facebook:
"The recording adventures continued today with an extraordinary Artist...we sang together and played acoustically into some the sweetest microphones I've ever seen...Thanks to Mark Knopfler for the fun, guidance, and good sounds! x TE"

Edit: Mods please move this to the MK discussion forum!

Yes, he was already posting the last days about what he calls his "duet project". So it seems more like Mark was HIS guest and playing for Tommy instead of what we all might have expected or dreamed of.

Great news though, especially the line about singing together. So it might be more than Mark's usual rhythm track contribution...

Tommy was announcing earlier this week that he was to meet one of his "idols" next Thursday..  :)
I love him and think it is far more interesting than any other option mentioned earlier here at AMIT.

Funny thing is that Tommy said three years ago (27 Apr 2014) in one of his podcasts, that meeting Mark would be dream come true.

He said "Mark, if you're listening — call me!" and did this...

It will be one (maybe two) songs for Tommy's duet album. Great to hear that Mark contributes vocals as well. As TE isn't exactly known as the world's greatest songwriter and large parts of his live sets are cover versions, there might be a chance to hear them both with an Interpretation of one of Mark's songs. An acoustic Sultans would be great wouldn't it.

Had the opportunity to meet tommy last month. He said that he had asked mark knopfler to record a couple (i think he said a couple) of songs with him, with the expectation that it wouldnt happen because mark is "way up in the stratosphere" as he would say. To his surprise mark accepted, but under the condition that tommy would also have to record some songs that mark wanted!

He said that it was very fast, they spent the morning in the studio, had lunch, and then mark basically sent him off because he had other things to do in the afternoon :P

Im excited to see what comes of it

Now this video mentions Mark in its title. Does it mean it was one of the songs recorded by MK & Tommy? If so, I'm ALREADY super-happy!

I can't find this song by lyrics... New song possibly? New Mark's song? :o

I think about it because of the line "I suppose" I suppose... And the first line is very MK-style.

Theme, subject, melody and style is all totally MK me thinks. Also reminds me very much of that talking style in There'll Be Some Changes Made...
