Premier in Edinburgh!

Remember how I said I wouldn't go to a musical?  Well since it's just along the road...  I take it I'll see you all there?

I hope so!    That would be wonderful.    :wave
This may get me over to this beautiful city I have never been to before as well

Alan Clark has shared the news in his Facebook. I guess it's because he was involved in 1982 with the film, I don't think he is now...

I don't remember who but someone called it right after the speculation began. Hats off to him/her  :clap

Somehow we all knew this was the "secret project" all along.

That's true but I would never think of that if someone hadn't brought that up before.

Any chance it will be available in video format after its run in the theater is over?

The theatre of London where Local Hero The Musical will be represented is not in the West End but next to Waterloo Train Station...

Very curious... It's like it is an independent thing not looking for the lights of the West End musicals...

interesting news, personally I am not a fan of musicals, but i think it is admirable that Mark took this challenge. Really curious about the result and I hope the music will be separately available and the lyrics to be sung by Mark. Though re-recordings of some of the original instrumentals might be interesting as well.

Some more info I found:
Glasgow-born Knopfler, former guitarist and song-writer with the rock band Dire Straits, has written a wealth of new music and songs for the stage show, which will also feature favourites from the original soundtrack. Forsyth, director of That Sinking Feeling, Gregory’s Girl and Comfort and Joy, insisted he would only participate if Knopfler was also involved. Speaking exclusively to The Scotsman, Greig said: “Local Hero is going to be a brand new home-grown production of Bill Forsyth’s story, with new songs and a new score by Mark Knopfler. “Some of the classic instrumental themes will be there - it would be insane not to include them - but he has written a whole bunch of new material, which is absolutely fantastic. “Bill and I are working on the script for about a year, trying to get it into shape, find out what it is as a stage thing and working with Mark to create something that is complete and organic."

The Old Vic is one of the most renowned theatres in the UK.  All the best actors have "treated the boards" there.

Also, the Royal Lyceum in Edinburgh has a good history as it was the first theatre in the UK to be lit by electricity from time of building.

Keep in mind that for example War Of The Worlds is a musical, which is imho an amazing album. We might be pleasantly suprised! Who knows.. :-)

The big question though is if Mark did also vocals for the soundtrack of the musical.
