I am also pretty much sure that after the first sunburst was stolen he had to go on tour with the red ones, no sunburst on the US tour or on the Old grey Whiste test TV for this reason.

Probably it was brand new on the gigs in Dortmund.

My personal theory: he could not get a replacement with the same specs so fast so he urged the Schecter people to get anything as fast as possible. The S8001 might have been a show room guitar at Schecter, normally not for sale, which they sent to him then. This explains the extraordinary serial number (they all started with S8xxx then... so this is like the #001). This can also explain why it has the side output jack, all others that Mark ordered were the standard style.

Interesting, thanks Ingo. So, what turned out to be one of his most beloved guitars by his fans and travelled the world on two massive world tours was essentially an emergency "off-the-peg" job!  Amazing!
