Wow, son, you made it, coming a long way from the backie and the beer to have a diner in sunny California? Good on you son!

I don't think he is in a restaurant; rather that he's at home, and that the lemon tree is in his garden. He has a home overlooking LA.

Together with "meeting" a producer it would make much more sence indeed. So actor or Musician.

Possible lyric correction: Should

"He grinds fresh coffee for himself he’s beaten our producer" be

"He grinds fresh coffee for himself he’s meeting a producer"?

Makes more sense.  I'll change it on page 5, or whatever.  Sometime the harder you listen to it the more obscure it sounds!  :hmm

Probably stole it from AMIT the sneaky devils!  I thought beaten the producer to the coffee but "meeting" would make sense too.  Imagine a scene in a waiting room sipping coffee with the newspaper about to go into a meeting with a producer.

Or he's still at home, enjoying his California breakfast, getting ready to meet a/the producer. It's well written. Really sets the mood, that optimistic ambitious drive people who move to LA have.

I don't know anything about Simon Cowell's background but he's clearly not a cockney and I don't think he sounds like he grew up on a grimy council estate.

he's from Brighton and if you believe the wikipedia, he was a bad boy when child, but probably it doesnt fit with the character of the song...
You might get lucky, now and then

Hi, all! Great to finally have a new MK song! What could I say about it? Well, it’s not my kind of music. But I love the sound of mk’s voice, I love the guitars (the blue Pensa, PensaGhost?), great drum sound, I like the synths and even the sax (!). I’m not too fond of the bass and the percs. The intro and the theme is great, the verse doesn’t give me too much, the chorus is fine, the overall sound and mix is great. Nice (up) tempo and interesting that new thinks happen all the time. Average song in a nice wrapping? But it’s cool, it’s fine and I am still a fan. Looking forward to hearing more new songs!

Besides delving into the lyrics of a new Markie song, I look for snippets of guitar work that pop up that have already been played on previous songs.

For example , on this song, at 0:47, 2:54 and 3:50, you can hear guitar riffs that come straight from the Shot at Glory soundtrack - second track, Hard Cases!

So cool :)

Hey man, Guy confirmed that it is one of Mark's Les Paul's through a Komet amp.

I thought it was just my download but having now heard it on YouTube I'm convinced there's a mistake at the start, about 33s in.  A slight pause before the note is played and when it is, it is a little louder than it should be.  Not a wrong note but just not perfect as it should be on a studio recording.

Time to update my slight criticism of the recording - I’d agreed with someone else who’d said they found it a bit messy, and I also said I thought the stereo spread a bit limited. Well, there is plenty of spread, although they’ve chosen to put vocals, guitars and sax dead centre. It’s the synths etc that are decently spread. And as I’ve listened to it more (on a serious system) I think what I found messy is just a very untypical MK sound, but not necessarily the worse for that. I do think there’s a slightly 'phasey' processing on his voice which I don’t find entirely natural. The song is doing its ear worm thing and I find myself humming the chorus to myself quite a lot, but I still don’t find the intro particularly connected to the song, and if I’m absolutely honest could probably live without the drum solo.
