My review - **SPOILERS about songs**

what I want to say is that someone who is not a MK fan, but listens to him occasionnaly noticed immediately that this album sounds "new" and "fresh"

I had exact the same reaction from my friend when i showed him Good On You Son, and he also listens to MK occasionally...
and I'm happy for your girls who could enjoy in this new album already!

listen good on you son, you, find the drums playing in two way, the first a normal sound and after the solo persussions a drums play in another way, like almost I never listen in Mark's works, maybe in some track on Shot at glory. Now when say 'new and fresh' is also for its? The drums played in Good on you son (second part) I will find in other parts of the album or is an single (I hope) track?

on Trapper Man, there is a part with percussions and vocals only. I like it a lot.
on Nobody does that, ther is that kind of funky/drums
on Heavy up, the tune ends with only vocals

difficult for me to describe but here is another argument :

this morning, I put the album in the car, and my second daughter (who knows a little bit MK and likes very much songs like border reiver, piper at he end, LAJADAS, Bonaparte, going home...yes, all the  irish/scottish stuff) said something like : "hey it's not his current style, he did not that on pevious albums, it's cool, I like it very much !"
She is 18 years old, and she listens to music from his generation, but also to classic rock music

JF, would you say that the new album is the most rocking one in Mark's solo career? Up to now, it was the GH album for me. Is there a song which has the nice lead guitar sound (pensa) as in you and your friend (live tour 1991/92) or in kingdom of gold (last tour) ?

I think that what doing JF is in perfect armony with what want company records or the artist: talking about not share, if you want listen you must buy it

"rockin" would be a bit too much to describe it.
I would rather say it's the most "rhytmic" if it makes sense. I find many dynamcis in the rhythm.
you know the kind of songs that makes you tap your feet or move your head   
but it's not "rocking" like imelda, don't you get it, SAN etc...

I think it's the most "groovy" one in Mark's solo career 


as for guitar tones, there are indeed very nice lead tones, but I'm not sure when it's the pensa or the LP.
the guitar tone on Back on the dance floor  is the closest to the OES era, or Silvertown blues, this kind of tone
other tones are between GH, STP and OES I may say
several songs have the tone I love : it's note really clean, it's not really saturated, it's note really crunch, it's just in between, and I like it very much because I find that Mark has too many times been "dichotomic" so to speak : it was too much clean (the marvin tone with the 54 ) or too much saturated (The LP), or too much thin (the 64 strat on slide)

on this album, I find that he got his typical tone again : warm, round, subtle...when you hear it you can say it's Mark for sure !

yes I find that he is more in high tones than usual, but maybe this is a general impression that could be "biased" by the female background vocals

not really. this segment is very particular. he sings very high "cow cow", and then "yeppe yeppe yeah" normaly
and the ambiance is special : minor key, slow pace, strange... (at least for me)

after listening to it several times it's ok, but nothing more.
in terms of music, It's a song like pulling down the ride, quality shoe...easy listening, but nothing touching (for ME of course)
and the other reason is that I find it brokes the album dynamic.
from the start to slow learner, you have a perfect blend of fast/slow paces, major/minor keys, clean/saturated tones, acoustic/electric etc...
Slow learner would have made a beautiful ending imho

and then you have this kind of "dancing" tune...it's like it's a bonus track, but to me it doesn't really fit with the rest of the album ambiance.
I know there are other editions with other tracks inserted inside the tracklist, so my view is based on the "standard" edition
maybe the album will work differently with all the songs included
but for now, from Trapper Man to slow learner, there is no song I want to skip
