Create your own perfect Down The Road Wherever
« on: November 20, 2018, 01:28:14 PM »
I am sure I am not the only one who likes to create perfect versions of albums from all the available songs involved in the sessions. It is a lot of fun. I have done it for several of Mark's albums. My version of Privateering (which I should call something else as Privaterring isn't on it!) is one of my favourite things to listen to. Most of the time all/many of the bonus etc songs get on my versions.

My early perfect version of Down The Road Wherever looks like this:

1. Trapper Man
2. Don't Suck Me In
3. Nobody's Child
4. Just a Boy Away From Home
5. When You Leave
6. My Bacon Roll
7. Sky and Water
8. Drover's Road
9. One Song at a Time
10. Slow Learner
11. Heavy up
12. Floating Away
13. Pale Imitation
14. Matchstick Man

Some of the playing order may change - My Bacon Roll could be a good second song - as could Heavy Up - and I am not yet sure of where Don't Suck Me In would best fit.

The songs to get the boot are: Dancefloor, GOYS, Nobody Does That, Rear View Mirror and Every Heart in the Room. Of those the ones I thought about including were the last two - but in the end I decided to drop the axe.....

If I get a good recording of Waterbound I would include that as my bonus track.

I'd chuck Heavy Up out and replace it with Don't Suck Me In, that's all.

- BOTDF, GOYS, NDT
+ all bonus tracks

Oh, and replace NC with Waterbound: sometimes Mark does covers better than his own stuff.

I'd chuck Heavy Up out and replace it with Don't Suck Me In, that's all.

same here, it's basically like replacing the worst one with the best one, which obviously is not on the main album...

I´m quite pleased by the selection of the running order of this album (unlike Tracker, in which slow tracks were chained making a dull mood).

Without many changes, i have just made a DOUBLE ALBUM (like Privateering, yes!)

CD 1 (45 min)

(1) TRAPPER MAN
(2) BACK ON THE DANCEFLOOR
(3) NOBODYS CHILD
(4) JUST A BOY AWAY FOR HOME
(5) WHEN YOU LEAVE
(6) GOOD ON YOU SON
(7) MY BACON ROLL
(8) NOBODY DOES THAT
(9) DROVERS ROAD

CD 2 (46 MIN)

(10) ONE SONG AT A TIME
(11) FLOATING AWAY
(12) SLOW LEARNER
(13) HEAVY UP
(14) EVERY HEART ON THE ROOM
(15) REAR VIEW MIRROR
(16) PALE IMITATION
(17) SKY AND WATER
(18) DONT SUCK ME IN
(19) MATCHSTICK MAN

And we have just one world...

2. Don't Suck Me In
3. Nobody's Child

5. Every Heart In the Room
6. My Bacon Roll
7. Sky and Water
8. Drover's Road
9. One Song at a Time
10. Nobody Does That
11. Back on the Dancefloor
12. Pale Imitation
14. Matchstick Man

Yes this is the best track list, and what I've been listening to.  I don't like to switch things up too much, and I think this album works wayyy better as a double album with all of the eclectic styles from song to song.
