First time that the opener changes in a tour
« on: May 09, 2019, 12:31:02 PM »
I was thinking that this is the first time the show opener had changed ever...

I think that only when MK toured with Bob Dylan the opener changed between Why Aye Man and What It Is, but that wasn't MK tour but Dylan's...

As far as I recall, with DS and during his solo career, the opener song never changed.

And now, we had two different ones, "Why Aye Man" and "Nobody does that", and I guess that if "Trapper" gets played, probably it would be as a opener too, or even "Back on the dance floor" could be...
You might get lucky, now and then

I think that Why aye man was planned to be the only opener of this tour. However, when MK noticed in the opening night that he had difficulties to play that, they skipping Why aye man in the next shows. I also believe that Guy felt that Nobody does that does not work very well and I guess he also checked our opinion in the forum.

I very much doubt Guy or Mark base set list choices on what is written in this or any forum, you only need to read Guy's reaction to set list questions on his forum to see that.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

Perhaps they were embarrassed by the strikingly similar (if not identical) opening minute of this tour and last tour if they had kept NDT as opener.

The brass plays the main line in WAM with Mark just playing along so it doesn't really matter if he misses a note here or there now anyway.

Same for part of Speedway, which has become tiresome for me now.  Perhaps going back to the way it was played early in the STP tour (on the South American leg) would be the best for it.
"I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order."

Guy is a clever guy. He cannot comment these things on his forum, but I think he can nowadays affect quite much for these issues.
