ACT ONE

01. A BARREL OF CRUDE (Company)

[spoken]
(female character): Mac!
(Mac): Just back
(male character): Mexico?
(Mac): Tokyo. Body clock’s haywire. I’m ready for coffee.
(female): How’s Trudi?
(Mac): Trudi left me
(male): What?
(female): When?
(Mac): About a week ago, I guess.
(male): You guess?
(Mac): Yeah. She left me a message. I didn’t pick it up until this morning. {indistinct}. She said the oil business is boring.
(female): What did you say to that.
(Mac): I said boring is only a small part of it. There’s also extraction, refining and sales.
(male): What does she say?
(Mac): I don’t know. I was talking to her answering machine.
(female): Wait a minute. Oil boring?
(male): What does she know?
(Mac): I know. Right?

Well first you got your gasoline
{And whatever is made of glass}
{Oilskins down to insecticide}
Then you got natural gas
What about fuel for all the cargo ships, the trucks, the busses and cars
Weedkiller and water skis
Umbrellas and bras

All the wonderful creams and antifreeze
Bathroom cleaner and rope
It goes in all your toothpaste
It goes in all your soap

Oil is a hell of a business
That much is understood
It’s amazing, amazing, amazing what you get from a barrel of crude

[spoken](Mac): Thanks guys. If I ever see Trudi again, I’ll let her know.

The squeegy thing to wash the dishes
Detergent, paint and glue
TV sets and lipstick. You got it in bubblegum too
Whiteners and brighteners to help you shift that dirt
Jack boots and fasteners
And zippers for skirts

{Mexican, Iranian, Soviet Siberian}
Guess where the next field is going to be?
{missing line}
It’s going to be right here, under the sea

[spoken]
(female): Mac. Don’t unpack. You got another trip.
(Mac): What. Where?
(female): Ferness
(Mac): Scotland? It’s tiny.
(female): As a matter of fact, it’s normal size, Mac. This is just a scale model.
(male): It’s a small holding off the beaten track. Three boats, a hotel and a beach. Not much else.
(Mac): Why do we want it?
(male): Refinery. It’s the only bay in a sixty mile stretch deep enough to take the tankers.
(female): In a couple of years it will be the biggest petro-chemical complex in the free world.
(male): Beautiful!

Well it’s got into all your underwear
And in your waterproof coat
The holdups for your pantyhose
{unclear line ending with boat}
Shampoos and conditioners. It’s in the bottles as well
Balm to put under your nose whenever you need get rid of a smell

How many tons of asphalt on the highways and the streets?
Swimsuits made of stretchy stuff for looking good on the beach

Sure is a hell of a business
That much is understood
It’s amazing, amazing, amazing what you get, amazing what you get
Amazing what you get from a barrel of crude

[spoken] (Mac listens to his answer phone messages)
(Beep) Mr MacIntyre. It’s Mary, Galveston Porsche. I’m calling to tell you that we have a rare silver 911 turbo coming in this weekend and it’s available for a test drive. I know how much you desire this particular model sir,
so I’m happy to let you know we can hold it for you until Wednesday.
(Beep) Mac, it’s Trudi. You left a suit and some shirts at my place. Maybe get your people to call my people and have it all picked up. I’m out Wednesday. I don’t have to say that I don’t want to deal with all your shit. Goodbye.

Well I guess it’s just in everywhere
Dustpans and dinnerware
Petroleum technology
Bedpans and bandages
An oil based economy
With all of it’s advantages
It’s in every can of aerosol
The perfume that your mother loved
The dumpster where to put it all
Trash bags and rubber gloves
And every kind of medicine
Should you not be feeling good

It’s amazing. It’s amazing
Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get
It’s amazing. It’s amazing
Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get
It’s amazing. It’s amazing
Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get

02. HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM (Mac)

Houston, We have a problem

Forever
Suspended in the air
Going where ever
To some other room out there
I have permission to buy an entire place
Complete my mission and then return to base
Houston. We have a problem

I crunch the numbers.
Dollars on a cheque
What am I?
I’m a travelling exec
Instructed to purchase or procure
Expected to take a deal and make secure
Where am I?
I’m not sure

Guess by now I’m used to being a hired gun
Walking round the lonely streets, to be the lonely one
Glancing to a mirror, think that I know what I see
These days it seems I can’t make out who’s looking back at me

As ever
This won’t be my habitat
But whatever
There’s something more than that
Keep pretending
I’m not tired of being alone
It seems never ending
Home is a place away from home

Instructed to purchase or procure
Expected to take a deal and make secure
But where am I?
Where am I?
Who am I?
I’m not sure.

Houston, We have a problem

03. WE'RE GOING TO MAKE A KILLIN' (Company)

We are gathered here today
We are gathered not to pray
For the oil man has his bounty to bestow
The oil man has appeared
And we have gathered here
To get it absolutely clear about the dough

[spoken] Oil is coming!
What’s going to happen to Ferness?
That’s what we want to know!

They’re going to be here and off the shore
They’re going to make a million, maybe even more
[spoken] But we will never see it!
They’re going to be here. They’re going to be there
[spoken] It’s only what we deserve!
And it’s only fair
[spoken] (Netta) It’s only what we deserve. Remember, it’s our oil after all and it’s under my lawn!
(Iain) We’ve got to hold our nerve. OK. Remember to let me take care of it all
[spoken] (Netta) Why you? What are you going to do about it?

And they’re going to start the pumping
Before the fish are jumping
They’ll be rigging and jigging and digging and drilling
And we’re going to make a killing
A killing
We’re going to make a killing

[spoken](Gordon) Calmness. Calmness. We don’t know why the American is here, The nearest oil field is 40 miles off shore. For all we know he is just here to play golf.
(Iain) He has an electric briefcase
(Gordon) OK. OK. But with a big fish like this you have to land him carefully. Now, who’s the money man around here?
(All) You are, Gordon.
(Gordon) Who does your tax returns?
(All) You do, Gordon.
(Gordon) Who magics your home hi-fi into a fully deductible ship to shore radio?
(Ownie) Shut up about that, Gordon!
(Gordon) Let’s keep it neat and let me deal with the Yanks.

We want an honest living. To earn an honest shilling
I think they’ll find us more than willing
And we’re going to make a killing
A killing
We’re going to make a killing

[spoken] (Rev Murdo) Play it cool. Let’s play it cool for the American

Amen

04. WHAT A LIFE (Ben)

If you take beachcombing, we could go roaming
Out on the shore with the gulls and the tide
By the rock pools, the pathways, seaways and skyways
If you were to walk by my side

Take the track lines in daylight, shoreline at twilight
There will be something or other turn up without fail
Be it a gift from the trade lords, or a ghost of the sea wolves
Or just the bones of a sailor, or a whale

And sometimes you’re dreaming
And sometimes just talking
And then you’ll be walking and talking a mile
And if you feel like star gazing
There will be something amazing
If you lay down and watch for a while

[spoken](Ben) Will you take a dram?
(Mac) Wait a minute, Ben. You can’t fool me.
This is expensive booze. You bought this.
(Ben) It fell off the back of a yacht. Slainte
(Stella) Slainte
(Mac) Slainte

And if you find yourself thinking
And you don’t mind drinking
Some whisky or other from a mug made of tin
And you don’t feel like leaving
Will you stay for the evening
By the fire with the dark rolling in

When I think of the pleasure
Revealed in each treasure
Revealed with the turning of year over year
I know you can’t put a price on paradise
And I think what a life there is here
What a life
(Stella) What a life

[spoken]
(Mac) Damn! I’m late. Gotta go. I got a lawyer’s appointment. Ben, thanks for the scotch
(Stella) He’s got a watch that tells him what to do
(Ben) (laughing) What a life

05. FILTHY DIRTY RICH (Gordon, Stella and Company)

[spoken] (Stella) Gordon. What are you doing on the desk?

(Gordon) It’s driving me round and round and round
I don’t think I’m coming down
(Stella) Have you any idea what time it is?
(Gordon) I just can’t settle down

[spoken] (Stella) Gordon, what the hell is going on?

(Gordon) He wants to buy the ground
He wants to buy the bloody town
The entire bloody town
(Stella) Buy the town? Do we need to sell? What is going down?

[spoken](Gordon) Sorry. Let me explain

We’re going to be rich, rich, filthy dirty rich.
Filthy dirty, filthy dirty rich
We’re going to be rich, rich, filthy dirty rich.
(Stella) Filthy dirty. It’s bloody one thirty
(Gordon) Filthy dirty rich

[spoken] (Gordon) Knox Oil want to build a great big beautiful refinery right here on the beach. So, they’re going to have to buy us all out.
Oh Stella, isn’t that brilliant?
If we land this deal the whole village will make a fortune.
(Stella) How exciting

(Gordon) We’ll get rid of the fucking hotel
Be filthy rich as well
(Stella) Does this mean we will have to go somewhere else?
Does it mean we will have to sell?

[spoken](Gordon) Of course we have to sell, Stella. That’s how we get all the money!

(Stella) I’m trying to understand
You’re like a different man
Why would you want to be someone else?
Why would you want to be grand?

[spoken] (Gordon) Good question!

(Stella) I’m trying to get things clear, Gordon
All this will disappear, Gordon?
If this goes the way you think it will.
I thought we were happy here

[spoken] (Gordon) Wait until we tell the village!

We’re going to be rich, rich, filthy dirty rich.
Filthy dirty, filthy dirty rich
We’re going to be rich, rich, filthy dirty rich.
Filthy dirty. It’s making me flirty
Filthy dirty rich

(Company) We’re going to be rich, rich, filthy dirty rich.
Filthy dirty, filthy dirty rich
We’re going to be rich, rich, filthy dirty rich.
(Gordon) Filthy dirty. It’s making me thirsty
[spoken] Let’s have a party!

06. ROCKS AND WATER (Stella)

It’s only rocks and water
Sand and sea and rocks and water
Look around it’s only sand and sea and sky
And yet I’m asking why
If it’s only rocks and water
Then something’s not in order
As if there’s something taking over
And it’s only rocks and water
Sand and sea and rocks and water

In every place I wander
In the hills and in the harbour
It haunts me with the strangest sounds
That fill the air
I hear them everywhere
In every cave and every corner
Something’s getting stronger
I tell myself it doesn’t matter
That it’s only rocks and water
Sand and sea and rocks and water

In every cave and every corner
Oh, something’s getting stronger
I tell myself it doesn’t matter
That it’s only rocks and water
Sand and sea and rocks and water

07. THAT'D DO ME (Company)

(Ownie)What’d do me, what‘d do me
Really, really do it for me
Would be not a lot
Not a lot you know
Just a nice wee little bungalow
With a nice wee window for looking out

(Rhona) A nice wee little motor car to get about
That’d do me. Oh that’d do me

(chorus – sung twice)
That’d do nicely
Very, very nicely
That’d do nicely
Thank you very much

(Iain) What’d do me, what’d do me
Really, really do it for me
Is to play my guitar
(Rhona) And about the car
(Iain) It could be red or blue.
(Company) Red or blue
(Rhona) Actually I might need two
(Company Might need two)
(Ownie) Oh and a Big white sofa facing that way
See, I’ve been reading up on my feng shui
That’d do me

(chorus – sung twice)
That’d do nicely
Very, very nicely
That’d do nicely
Thank you very much

(Netta) What’d do me, what’d do me
Really, really do it for me
It would be such a breeze
To own my own company
And get a month’s paid holiday in Greece
(Ownie) Obviously of course after we sell the beach
(Iain) And a nice wee bus for my backing band
To take us all to wonderland
That’d do me

(chorus – sung twice)
That’d do nicely
Very, very nicely
That’d do nicely
Thank you very much

(Pauline) What’d do me, what’d do me
Really, really do it for me
Is a million or two
(Company) Not a lot you know)
(Pauline) Or maybe just a few
(Company) A nice wee bungalow)

(Ownie) A fleet of trawlers, spick and span
A fishing boat for a fishing man

(Iain) And a nice wee limo and a nice wee jet
Buy or rent, I don’t know yet
That’d do me
(chorus – sung twice)
That’d do nicely
Very, very nicely
That’d do nicely
Thank you very much

(Rev Murdo)Let’s all give thanks and praise
Voices to the heavens raise

(Company)Cash and cars and holidays
Hallejujah!
Happy days so
Hallejujah!

[spoken] (over radio) this is Soviet fishing vessel calling Ferness Harbour. Over
(Mistress Fraser) Viktor!

(Mistress Fraser)What would do it for me
Just do it for me
Wold be my only one
My only, only one
Everyday I see him there
Sometimes I think he doesn’t care
We sit and watch the Northern Lights
Keep each other warm at night
That’d do me
Oh, that’d do me

- I HOPE YOU HAVEN'T CHANGED ON ME (Stella, Gordon) - Only performed during the previews representations

08. BIG MAC (Iaian, Viktor and Company)

(Company) Mac, Big Mac. Mac, Big Mac, Big Mac.

(Iain) The day this man walked in to town (Company) Mac, Big Mac))
The stage was set for a big showdown (Company (Mac, Big Mac, Big Mac))
He was strong he was cold he had the money roll and the situation under control.
Now a local man, Urquhart was his name
Tried to take on Mac at the property game
As each tried walking in the other man’s shoes
But neither son of a gun was in the mood to lose

But Mac was no longer in Texas
Nobody was riding no range
There were the Northern Lights and the northern girls
And a world that was different, a world that was strange

(Company) Mac, Big Mac. Mac, Big Mac, Big Mac.

(Iain) Mac stepped in to that old church hall (Company (Mac, Big Mac))
Sat down at the table with his back to the wall (Company (Mac, Big Mac, Big Mac))
They wheeled and they dealed, they were evenly matched
Every hut, every ship had a price attached

Well Mac finally wrote down a number
It was passed across the table and they passed it around
For the whole damn town and refinery scheme
It was more damn cash than anybody could have dreamed
But this time the fistful of dollars was undoubtedly not quite enough
The man was saying “No” to the yankee gold
He was stubborn, resourceful, the man was tough

[spoken]
(Mac) Not a penny, Gordon. Not a pound
(Gordon) We’ll see!

(Company) Mac, Big Mac. Mac, Big Mac, Big Mac.

(Iain) Well Big Mac pushed back his chair (Company (Mac, Big Mac))
And made like he was about to walk out of there (Company (Mac, Big Mac, Big Mac))
And as his patent black Gucci’s hit the hardwood floor
The man was heading out of that church hall door
When an old friend whispered in Urquhart’s ear

(Gordon) We’re not done yet, Mac. Get back here
When we sell and have to buy a new Ferness
We want one percent a barrel, no more, or less

[spoken] A community royalty on every barrel of crude oil processed here.
Guaranteed and in perpetuity

(Iain) But, Mac was on his limit
(Mac) Not another dime
(Iain) He had to weigh up the catch in a real short time
You could have cur the air with a Bowie knife
But the man was holding out for the deal of his life
When everybody thought the deal was blown sky high
They were looking at each other straight in the eye
The man he gave a little nod of his head
Spoke just one word
(Mac) “Done”
(Iain) He said
(Company) Rich, rich, filthy dirty rich
Filthy dirty, filthy dirty rich
Rich, rich, filthy dirty rich.

(Viktor) You know who came up with that one percent?
Got Urquhart a deal and settlement
It might be Gordon Urquhart who you are thinking of
But it was me. Who?
Viktor Vladamirovich Popov.
Viktor Vladamirovich Popov.
Viktor Vladamirovich Popov.

[spoken] And the moral of this story?
If you want to understand capitalism, American style.
Ask a communist Russian businessman.

(Company) Mac, Big Mac. Mac, Big Mac, Big Mac.
(Viktor) Viktor Vladamirovich Popov.
(Company) Mac, Big Mac. Mac, Big Mac, Big Mac.
(Viktor) Viktor Vladamirovich Popov.
(Company) Mac, Big Mac. Mac, Big Mac, Big Mac.
(Viktor) Viktor Vladamirovich Popov.
(Company) Mac, Big Mac.

09. I WONDER IF I CAN GO HOME AGAIN (Mistress Fraser, Company)

I have been where I’ve been
And I have seen what I’ve seen
How I’m feeling today is not what I felt then
And my plans for myself make me almost ashamed
And I wonder if I can go home again

I see the wild sea birds wheel
Or the swirl of the tide
As if I never walked by the waters so wide
Every wave rolling in
That breaks on the shore
Makes me feel that I’ve never known this before

And when he comes near
My life goes astray
And yesterday seems
Like a lifetime away

I never once gave a thought
To the how and the why
Now I’m gazing at stars
In what once was just sky
And I’m dreaming that he could be more than a friend
And I wonder if I can go home again

Just dreaming that he could be more than a friend
And I wonder if I can go home again

10. LONE STAR STATE (Viktor)

Guess that I was born to be a rover
Guess I’ve always been a rolling stone
But some day when my rolling days are over
I will find a place to call my own
‘Cause even the lone stars they get lonesome
Lonesome as a lost ship on the sea
Even the lone stars they get lonesome
Lonesome for a lone star man like me

Even the lone stars they get lonesome
Lonesome as a lost ship on the sea
Even the lone stars they get lonesome
Lonesome for a lone star man like me

Lonesome for a lone star man like me

ACT TWO

01. NEVER FELT BETTER (Company)

[spoken] (Mac): What happened?

(Iain): There was beer and wine and whisky
(Ownie): And whatever truth be told
(Both): They may have all been mixed together
(Netta): And with all the drink and dance and laughter
(all): You might think we’d have to face the morning after
(Viktor): With the mother and the father of a piss up there will always be
(all): The things you don’t remember
(Ownie): Last night wouldn’t scratch the surface {of some parties I’ve been to, that’s certain}
(Rhona): {There was banter and rapport}
(Iain): And nothing untoward
(Ownie): If the lady ever complains, I never met her
(Viktor): It was a very quiet night
(Mistress Fraser): Not a piss artist in sight
(all): Never felt better
(Iain): Hangover?
(all): Give over. No way
(all): Never felt better than today

(all): Now, we’ve been on some binges
(all):{With no thought given about which has been the best one}
(Netta): We’ve had some mighty celebrations with libation
(all): {And there will always be the next one}
(Rhona): Some of us held up rather well
(Iain): The regulars
(Viktor): The clientele
(all): Fulfilled every expectation to the letter
(Ownie): It was a pretty quiet night
(Netta): And we’re perfectly alright
(all): Never felt better
(Iain): Hangover?
(all): Give over. No way
(all): Never felt better than to - [Rhona throws up] – day
[everyone else throws up]

02. CHEERIO AWAY YE GO (Ben, Stella)

(Ben)Now you’re a wiz with calculations
And I’m sure negotiations
But I think perhaps there’s something you should know
In my humble estimation
You can’t just make a valuation
And it seems it’s up to me to tell you so

Now I have every admiration
For your powers of persuasion
All the back and forth and to and fro
I’ve enjoyed our conversation
Appreciate your situation
But as we say up here in Scotland

Cheerio, away ye go
Cheerio, away ye go
Cheerio, away ye go
Away ye go, wee man, away ye go

(Stella) Give me the wild blue yonder
[spoken] (Gordon) Stella, you’re being ridiculous
(Stella) Or the ocean’s endless wonder
[spoken] (Gordon) It’s just the sea. There’s bloody loads of it
(Stella) So many treasures waiting here to show
(Ben) You see this place gives me my living
Every day it goes on giving
As we say up here in Scotland

Cheerio, away ye go
Cheerio, away ye go
Cheerio, away ye go
Away ye go, wee man, away ye go

Cheerio, away ye go
Cheerio, away ye go
Cheerio, away ye go
Away ye go, wee man. away ye go

Away ye go, wee man, away ye go

03. GET A MOVE ON (Company)

It’s fair to say we Scots are realistic
Never have been known for being over optimistic
But when this deal is done and dusted
We won’t get unduly flustered
Neither overcome with joy
Nor over pessimistic
We are counting all our blessings, are we not?
When we think of all the good things we have got
And of what we’re going to get
But have nae got it yet
Though we can see it’s going to be a lot

So could you two hurry up
Heads down, arses up
Zip it mister, time to act
Burn some rubber, hit the tracks
You got to get a move on
Get a move on
Pull your socks up
Pick your knees up
Put a sail up
Pick the pace up
Better get your shoes on
Get a move on. Get a move on. Get a move on

We thought a trip to Spain, or France would be OK
With a wee advance to see us on our way
We thought it more or less was fine
As good as signed on the dotted line

So what is it we’re actually trying to say?

We’ve got tickets for the flight
We’re flying out next Thursday night
And we’ve got to have some spending money handy
It’s going to come as a surprise
When you look into their eyes
And tell them “No, you cannae go to Alicante”

So could you two hurry up
Heads down, arses up
Ready steady, get a grip
Gee up Neddy, crack the whip
You got to get a move on
Get a move on
Pull your socks up
Pick your knees up
Put a sail up
Pick the pace up
Better get your shoes on
Get a move on. Get a move on. Get a move on

Get a move on. Get a move on. Get a move on

04. NUMBERS (Stella, Mac)

(Stella): So when you see a falling star
(Mac): I think of Newton’s Law of Gravity
(Stella): The sun, the moon and planets
(Mac): Light, I guess and nuclear energy
(Stella): There must be mystery
(Mac): Ain’t no mystery
If there’s a theory of everything
It’s got to be numerical
(Stella): There must be more than numbers
(Mac): Everything is mathematical
(Stella): That’s problematical
(Mac): What’s problematical?

(Stella): When you feel a mass emotion
Don’t you think that’s magical?
Obsession and devotion
(Mac): That’s all logical
But, I don’t really do emotion
I’m just an estimator
(Stella): What if you found there is more to life
Than just a calculator?
There’s no numerical connection
Between you walking through my door
And somewhere in Hawaii
A wave breaks on the shore

(Mac): I’m not so sure
(Stella): you’re not so sure
(Mac): I’m not so sure
(Stella): He’s not so sure

[spoken]
(Mac): OK. How about this?
Imagine this view is a painting on the wall. Now imagine one night that painting gets stolen.
How much would you be willing to pay to get it back?
(Stella): Mac, if someone stole my painting, I’d break his legs. No mercy.
(Mac): How much would you pay?
(Stella): I don’t know. Infinity.
(Mac): Infinity is not a number.
(Stella): And Ferness is not a painting!
(Mac): Come on Stella!
Nothing stays the same forever. Everything dies. It’s called entropy. The facts prove it.

(Stella): Just breathe. Feel the breeze on your face.
{indistinct line}
We’re only here for a second, Mac.
{indistinct line}
That’s life. We are just “blow ins”.

(Mac): Even mutual attraction
Has been determined as a fraction
There’s a chemical equation
For each chemical reaction
A thermal dynamic formula
It’s all observed phenomena
For sure

(Mac): You’re not so sure
(Stella): I’m not so sure
(Mac): She’s not so sure

(Stella): If no one thing can last forever
(Mac): It’s just a theorem, or a theory
(Stella): And if everything is numbers
(Mac): One plus one. Like he and she
Maybe it’s like synergy
(Stella): Anyway we can’t agree
(Mac): Pheromone proximity
(Stella): There must be mystery
(Mac): It’s surely purely chemistry
(Stella): And if everything is numbers
Tell me how long is forever supposed to be

05. ALL THE THINGS WE DO (Company women)

Think what they’ll do for you
Only the best
A place that is safe
A haven of rest
Friends to stay close to
And a pleasant sea view
All the things that we do
That we do for you

[spoken](Netta): The Misty View Care Home. I know the manager and can get you a room. One of the best.

Proper double glazing
So, rooms with no drafts
Regular meal times
And regular baths
Clearers and cleaners
And carpeted floors
Warm radiators
And dinners indoors

It’ll be a change of scene
That we know you’ll love. We know you’ll love
Every activity that you can think of
People for a sing song
And dominos too. Dominos too

All the things, all the things, all the things that we do for you
All the things, all the things, all the things that we do for you
For you. For you.

You can follow your heart
Do all the things you’ve never done
Everything you’ve been dreaming of
When you hang up your gun
Never to rest
All ready to run
Adventures waiting for you
Just around the corner
Your time in the sun

A TV tray at breakfast when it’s time for waking up
A helping hand at bedtime when your teeth go in a cup
They’re going to understand it when old fogies make a fuss
They know that getting old, Ben, is nae good for any of us

There will be tea and coffee
Your favourite armchair. Favourite armchair
Bell push for attention and night and day care
You know we’re going to find you, it’s
The least we can do
All the things that we do, that we do for you

All the things, all the things, all the things that we do for you
All the things, all the things, all the things that we do for you
For you. For you.
For you.

06. IN AN IDEAL WORLD (Mac, Gordon)

(sung by Mac):
In an ideal world
I could do what you do
Run this place, keep it nice
A little business advice
Wear my deal maker's hat
And then, this and that
You could take my car
I bought it brand new
In and ideal world
I can see me as you
And in this ideal world
I can see you as me too
Paying attention to things
Whatever life brings
You over there
With your know how and flair

(Gordon): If we could only swap places
(Mac): Swap our jobs
(Gordon): And swap faces
(Mac): You could have my apartment
(Gordon): I could head your department
(Mac): You'd be running the whole damn show
(Mac): It's Head of Acquisitions, you know
(Mac):That's my position and so
(Mac):You have my permission to go

[spoken]
(Mac): You can go. Here’s my keys, here’s my car. Show up Monday morning,
call yourself “Mac” and I swear to God no one will know the difference. What do you say?
Gordon): Done!

(sung by Mac):
Which brings me to
You know who
Maybe I could love her
Maybe she could love me too
In an ideal world
I could do what you do
And she'd be my girl
In and ideal world

07. GAME OVER (Stella)

What did you think was going to happen?
What made you think you were so clever?
And here you are talking of tomorrow
You said yourself nothing lasts forever

What did they think was going to happen?
All they had to do was find a number
And their world would then turn into a heaven
Somehow

Get real mister, it’s game over
It’s game over
Get real mister, it’s game over now,
Over now, over now

And now it’s coming
The thunder of the drums
Hear talk of victory
Telling us they want their fires burning
There’s smoke up in the sky
And not a soul here left to say goodbye

What did I think was going to happen?
Life is sold on mystery and wonder
So tell me things I never simply measured
Anyhow

Get real sister, it’s game over
It’s game over
Get real sister, it’s game over now,
Over now, over now
It’s game over now

08. I WONDER IF I CAN GO HOME AGAIN - REPRISE (Mac)

I have been where I’ve been
And I have seen what I’ve seen
How I’m feeling today is not what I felt then
And my plans for myself make me almost ashamed
And I wonder if I can go home again

[spoken] (Mac talking into a Dictaphone)
Expedite immediate cancellation of pipeline and processing facility on Ferness beach.
Shuttle crude to continental markets in tanker fleets to limit the damage. It makes better sense.
Instigate Happer Foundation and observatory.
Trigger accommodation for Mr Ben Knox. Recommend a selection of fully insulated Norwegian style timber built chalets plus recommend inclusion of sauna and hot tub. You’ll like that, Ben, I promise. It won’t mean much to you now, but you’ll just love it.
Item - Add Popov Socialist Holdings to the construction supply tendering.

I never once gave a thought
To the how and the why
Now I’m gazing at stars
In what once was just sky
And I’m dreaming that she could be more than a friend
And I wonder if I can go home again

And I’m dreaming that she could be more than a friend
And I wonder if I can go home again

09. AIMING FOR THE STARS (Ben, Company)

(Ben) The evening stars fade with the day
And now the tide will turn and draw away
And on the wide and empty shore
The stones are stones and nothing more

The warming sun, the salted spray
And neither one can know a day
As darkness falls and the night returns
The silver moon in unconcerned

Keep looking at the skies
Keep looking at the skies
And aiming for the stars
Keep looking at the skies
And aiming for the stars
For the stars

(Happer) I’m just a mortal man trapped in my little bubble of time
One day we’re going to leave this planet
When we do I want to be there, somehow
I want to be up there in perpetuity
“Hang a left at Happer’s comet”
That’s what they’ll say
“Hang a left at Happer’s comet”
Imagine

(Company)
There are no words from hills and trees
No dying whispers on the breeze
There are no songs from the evening stars
But in the darkness we look up
To where they are

(sung 4 times)
Keep looking at the skies
Keep looking at the skies
And aiming for the stars
Keep looking at the skies
And aiming for the stars
For the stars

(Stella) Tell me how long is forever

(Company) For the stars

(Stella) How long is forever

More to come from me soon. These are my interpretation of the lyrics, so I don't guarantee the accuracy. Be interesting to see how close I got when and if the official lyrics are released.

Such a great work, Fenderbender, thank you very very much!

I´m looking forward time alone at home to sit and listen to the songs reading the lyrics. This helps quite a lot to understand some parts I didn't got very well the night I attended.

Now that jbaent has collected all the "lyrics" into one file, to avoid confusion and tidy up the thread I think I should delete my posts. Unless anyone thinks different.

I will work on the remaining 3 songs and post them here when I have managed to decipher them sufficiently. I admit I have been struggling with parts of these, so what I might do is post what I have decoded in the hope that others may be able to help fill in the gaps.

Oops. Just noticed a spelling mistake in "That'd Do Me".
The name spoken by Mistress Fraser before she sings the last verse is, of course, Viktor.

Sorry about that

Solved. I also edited something in "Aiming for the stars" that was wrong. I'm sure there will be more things, it's normal when typing, so don't worry!

Many thanks and I'm sure there will be a lot more things I got wrong. I'm sure many of the lines I've typed are not as Mark wrote, but hopefully I've captured something of the spirit of his words if not the accuracy.
With that in mind this song has caused me real problems. Don't know if it's because too many different singers are involved, or if it's because they were singing with American accents, but I am really struggling to hear the words, so if anyone has any suggestions they would be gratefully received. (Lines I can't make out, or am unhappy about are shown in { })

01 “A Barrel Of Crude" – Company

[spoken]
(female character): Mac!
(Mac): Just back
(male character): Mexico?
(Mac): Tokyo. Body clock’s haywire. I’m ready for coffee.
(female): How’s Trudi?
(Mac): Trudi left me
(male): What?
(female): When?
(Mac): About a week ago, I guess.
(male): You guess?
(Mac): Yeah. She left me a message. I didn’t pick it up until this morning. {indistinct}. She said the oil business is boring.
(female): What did you say to that.
(Mac): I said boring is only a small part of it. There’s also extraction, refining and sales.
(male): What does she say?
(Mac): I don’t know. I was talking to her answering machine.
(female): Wait a minute. Oil boring?
(male): What does she know?
(Mac): I know. Right?

Well first you got your gasoline
{And whatever is made of glass}
{Oilskins down to insecticide}
Then you got natural gas
What about fuel for all the cargo ships, the trucks, the busses and cars
Weedkiller and water skis
Umbrellas and bras

All the wonderful creams and antifreeze
Bathroom cleaner and rope
It goes in all your toothpaste
It goes in all your soap

Oil is a hell of a business
That much is understood
It’s amazing, amazing, amazing what you get from a barrel of crude

[spoken](Mac): Thanks guys. If I ever see Trudi again, I’ll let her know.

The squeegy thing to wash the dishes
Detergent, paint and glue
TV sets and lipstick. You got it in bubblegum too
Whiteners and brighteners to help you shift that dirt
Jack boots and fasteners
And zippers for skirts

{Mexican, Iranian, Soviet Siberian}
Guess where the next field is going to be?
{missing line}
It’s going to be right here, under the sea

[spoken]
(female): Mac. Don’t unpack. You got another trip.
(Mac): What. Where?
(female): Ferness
(Mac): Scotland? It’s tiny.
(female): As a matter of fact, it’s normal size, Mac. This is just a scale model.
(male): It’s a small holding off the beaten track. Three boats, a hotel and a beach. Not much else.
(Mac): Why do we want it?
(male): Refinery. It’s the only bay in a sixty mile stretch deep enough to take the tankers.
(female): In a couple of years it will be the biggest petro-chemical complex in the free world.
(male): Beautiful!

Well it’s got into all your underwear
And in your waterproof coat
The holdups for your pantyhose
{unclear line ending with boat}
Shampoos and conditioners. It’s in the bottles as well
Balm to put under your nose whenever you need get rid of a smell

How many tons of asphalt on the highways and the streets?
Swimsuits made of stretchy stuff for looking good on the beach

Sure is a hell of a business
That much is understood
It’s amazing, amazing, amazing what you get, amazing what you get
Amazing what you get from a barrel of crude

[spoken] (Mac listens to his answer phone messages)
(Beep) Mr MacIntyre. It’s Mary, Galveston Porsche. I’m calling to tell you that we have a rare silver 911 turbo coming in this weekend and it’s available for a test drive. I know how much you desire this particular model sir,
so I’m happy to let you know we can hold it for you until Wednesday.
(Beep) Mac, it’s Trudi. You left a suit and some shirts at my place. Maybe get your people to call my people and have it all picked up. I’m out Wednesday. I don’t have to say that I don’t want to deal with all your shit. Goodbye.

Well I guess it’s just in everywhere
Dustpans and dinnerware
Petroleum technology
Bedpans and bandages
An oil based economy
With all of it’s advantages
It’s in every can of aerosol
The perfume that your mother loved
The dumpster where to put it all
Trash bags and rubber gloves
And every kind of medicine
Should you not be feeling good

It’s amazing. It’s amazing
Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get
It’s amazing. It’s amazing
Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get
It’s amazing. It’s amazing
Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get. Amazing what you get

And this is the song I am currently trying to "crack".
I guess the chorus contains a number of phrases that mean "hurry up", but I haven't been able to work out which ones yet.
There is also a 4 line segment at the start of verse 2 which has eluded me so far.

Revised interpretation, borrowing heavily and with grateful thanks to Shangri-La1 for the earlier transcription, noted below

Act 2 03 "Get A Move On"- Company

It’s fair to say we Scots are realistic
Never have been known for being over optimistic
But when this deal is done and dusted
We won’t get unduly flustered
Neither overcome with joy
Nor over pessimistic
We are counting all our blessings, are we not?
When we think of all the good things we have got
And of what we’re going to get
But have nae got it yet
Though we can see it’s going to be a lot

So could you two hurry up
Heads down, arses up
Zip it mister, time to act
Burn some rubber, hit the tracks
You got to get a move on
Get a move on
Pull your socks up
Pick your knees up
Put a sail up
Pick the pace up
Better get your shoes on
Get a move on. Get a move on. Get a move on

We thought a trip to Spain, or France would be OK
With a wee advance to see us on our way
We thought it more or less was fine
As good as signed on the dotted line

So what is it we’re actually trying to say?

We’ve got tickets for the flight
We’re flying out next Thursday night
And we’ve got to have some spending money handy
It’s going to come as a surprise
When you look into their eyes
And tell them “No, you cannae go to Alicante”

So could you two hurry up
Heads down, arses up
Ready steady, get a grip
Gee up Neddy, crack the whip
You got to get a move on
Get a move on
Pull your socks up
Pick your knees up
Put a sail up
Pick the pace up
Better get your shoes on
Get a move on. Get a move on. Get a move on

Get a move on. Get a move on. Get a move on

Funnily enough, my wife and I had spent half an hour trying to decipher the lyrics before the posting above that they'd actually already been done months ago. There are or two errors in that posting, which I'll try and correct in the next couple of days.

Except "Never Felt Better" we have lyrics for all the songs already, and of course except "I hope you hadn't changed on me" which we don't have it so we can't know the lyrics...

Goon525, if you find any mistakes in the lyrics, let us know to correct them!
