Speedway at Nazareth Intro
« on: September 27, 2020, 01:32:14 AM »
Hello!

Is there a reason why the intro of Speedway at Nazareth is played in a different way at some concerts.
Somestimes with Violin-Intro and sometimes not just as the album version?

Thanks,
Martin

Hi Martin,

A few examples would be nice, because personally I can’t remember when Mark played it without the violin intro. And the reason could be as easy as no violinist in the band or as complex as the absence of a violin track on the live recording, could be anything.

My question only regards to the DTRW Tour 2019. So he has John McCusker in every of those concerts so there is no lack of violin player.
To name a few examples:

With Violin-Intro:
Barcelona
A Coruna
Strasbourg
Bordeaux
Vienna
Lisboa

Without Violin-Intro:
New York Madison Square Garden
Roma (Both days)
Verona

Regards,
Martin

Looks to me as if non-violin version is ever so shorter, and Mark has a notorious habit of shortening his shows to ridiculous manners because of nobody-knows-why... A plane to catch, curfew or something else. So I think for more busy nights they would chose a version with no intro to save every bit of time possible.

I noticed this while listening to the Soundboards.
Looks like the violin intro suddenly disappeared from SaN at one concert, and then it remained that way.

I was very surprised when I heard this the first time. I can't remember exactly at which concert this change took place...

During 2015 NA shows, that violin intro linked the end of OES with the start of Speedway. I think they didn't repeat that on 2019 tour and it's a pity, as it was quite nice...
You might get lucky, now and then

I love the violin intro on Speedway and I'm glad that it was played when I was at the concerts in Leeds and Newcastle.  However, it had been abandoned by the time I was at the concert Verona, unfortunately.
