I don't think it is really something these professional musicians worry about. Mark is their boss, he asks them to play these songs, and they play them, if they were bored why would they keep agreeing to tour with Mark? Don't forget they are not listening to Mark's music every day like most of us, so when they play the songs live again it probably is new and fresh to them, and in the mean time they have played many many sessions between tours. I am guessing it would be more boring playing in the Bob Dylan Never Ending Tour situation!!!
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

„We enjoyed an elongated sound check, exploring something that we will play on the final show in MSG.“ from the last diary entry. Maybe back on the dancefloor with Bonnie Raitt? :think

That "exploring" makes me think that maybe they are planning to play something with Bonnie, that it's not a MK song... During the BIA tour DS played several songs not from them, songs that were sung by their guests, like T-Bone Burnett, Paul Young, Eric Clapton, Paul Brady or even Bob Dylan... maybe they are preparing something like that... playing two songs with her, one by MK, and another one by Bonnie... or a classic song...

It's strange they are preparing it with so many time in advance, the MSG show is in almost a month...

Yes, too many empty seats yet... I'd say that it's not half empty but even more, probably 3/5 empty judging by the map in their site...

The ones in red colour are already sold and in hands of second markets... if they don't sell them, they would be probably empty too.

To all of you that are attending thd next shows in North America...

Any chance that you go early to the venue, when they soundcheck, and try if you can listen from the outside what they are playing?

Just in case someone can listen what they are rehearsing for New York!

From a very very selfish point of view, I'm relieved that the set stayed the same in the NA leg of the tour.

After attending 7 concerts of the European leg, I was fearing of MK adding something new like "trapper", "back on the dancefloor" or anything else, and missing it, like happened last tour that I missed "OES" that was only played in NA.

I tried to make plans for one of the NA shows this tour just in case anything like that happened, but it was impossible for me, so I won't go to NA at all.

Now that I know that the set remains the same, I have to say that I'm happy as I don't miss anything new. 7 concerts are really a lot for me, actually, they are more than enough!

I know that is likely something happens in the last show at the more than empty MSG in NYC, but I'm under the impression that is going to be dissapointing anyway, less than we expect... so I don't feel I'll be missing anything anyway.

Again, all this from a very selfish point of view!

There is no doubt in my mind it will be an older song the band are familiar with such as Prairie Wedding or something.  They are unlikely to rehearse a brand new song only to play it on the last show of the tour, so you're absolutely right in your assessment.
